Organization Mission

The WHO Country Office in The Gambia supports the Government of The Gambia in strengthening the national health system and advancing public health priorities, including the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

Context

WHO Country Office in The Gambia is currently finalizing the WHO STEPwise Approach to NCD Risk Factor Surveillance (STEPS) Survey report, a comprehensive national document spanning approximately 300 pages. This report represents a critical evidence base to inform policy, planning, and resource allocation for noncommunicable diseases in the country.

In order to enhance the quality, readability, and visual presentation of this important document, WHO seeks the support of the UNV Programme to facilitate the engagement of a qualified Graphic Design Consultant on a pro bono basis.

Key Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will support the WHO Country Office in The Gambia by:
1. Providing professional graphic design and layout services for the full STEPS report
2. Improving the visual presentation of tables, charts, and infographics
3. Ensuring consistency with WHO branding and publication standards
4. Supporting formatting and finalization of the document to a publication-ready standard
5. Working closely with the WHO technical and communications teams to incorporate feedback and revisions.
Support is required in:
Graphic design, document layout and formatting, data visualization, publication design, and production of professional technical reports.

Required Skills and Experience

Experience in graphic design and layout of technical or policy documents is required. Previous experience supporting UN agencies, international organizations, public health institutions, or development partners is desirable. Familiarity with WHO or UN publication standards is an advantage.
Skills:
• Advanced graphic design and layout skills
• Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software
• Excellent formatting and typography skills
• Ability to present complex technical information in a visually engaging manner
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Specific qualifications and experience
A background in graphic design, visual communications, publishing, or related fields is preferred. Experience designing large technical publications, annual reports, or survey reports is highly desirable.
