Save the Children: FSL Officer-Livestock – Kabul


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

The main areas of accountability and responsibility of this position are, to support the implementation of the Agriculture component under FCDO PREAVEL grant over the target province/s.

Key Responsibilities:

 Collect and analyse information on animal production and health conditions of the target area especially statistics on animal production and health , feeding.grazing and other related to contextual issues .

 Identify the needs of the most vulerbale populations and propose interventions to these needs regarding with improving/increasing the target communities in animal livelihoods/farming system.

 Lead the implemnation of the planned animal production and animal health activities and strategies of the project in collaboration with other departments /sectors

 Provide technical support and follow up the Field Extension Agents , Animal producer community groups /IGAs especially poultry , dairy cow , etc and the direct beneficiaries’ activities at grass root level

 Define implementation modalities ( identification and registration of beneficiaries , distribution , training , awareness , monitoring etc ) for livestock and animal health compoement of the project.

 Travel frequently to the project sites/villages and mobilize the targeted stakeholders and beneficiary communities to fulfil the objectives of the project activities .

 Plan and oversee livestock vaccination and deworming campaigns in coordination with local service providers and community stakeholders.

 The livestock officer will play a key role in the mobilization and transparent community selection process.

 You will conduct daily visits to the project sites, providing information and technical advices to the communities.

 You will deliver training to the communities in appropriate and modern animal production techniques , animal health and welfare practices including all aspects of animal health, the importance of preventative treatment and veterinary services, fodder/forage development , and feeding, grazing management, housing, and animal handling in the relevant district.

 You will work to establish the community fodder banks and train the livestock owners on how to manage them.

 Promote best practices in livestock husbandry, including improved animal handling, hygiene, and market linkages for livestock products.

 Ensure that livestock interventions are inclusive, targeting vulnerable groups such as women, persons with disabilities, and families with limited income

 Provide regular updates and progress reports on livestock-related activities.

 Assist the FSL coordinator to prepare annual , quarterly and monthly plans for effective execution of the project activities as stipulated in the project document

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning

 Prepare and implement action plan for quality monitoring

 Mobilizing and Making communities aware of project objectives, outputs and activities and MEAL systems and SCI Child Safeguarding Policies.

 Facilitate project and activities information at all events such as training and workshops

 Support the FSL coordinator in developing and preparing monitoring plans and ensure that activities are in line with achieving expected outputs of the Livestock development activities

QUALIFICATIONS

 Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, livestock Development, Animal Health/veterinary scinence and other related/equivalent disciplines with a minimum of three years of experience in similar capacity..

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

The candidate/employee should have at least 3 years proven experience, skills and knowledge especially on shoats, fattening, dairy, poultry , apiculture, animal health and feed/fodder management and livestock extension services. In addition, she/he will have strong communication, analytical and reporting skills/techniques, capable in organizing project activities and follow up a team. She/he also has to have high level of understanding of Humanitarian working principles and good knowledge in Sphere/LEGES standards – Best in Computer knowledge – Good knowledge of both English and local language (read, written, spoken) – Willingness and enthusiasm for working with rural and vulnerable communities in the proposed intervention areas.
