Who are we?
The British Embassy Sarajevo is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Security Officer.
Main purpose of the job:
As part of the Security Team, the job holder will ensure the effective security of British Embassy staff and properties by adhering to security procedures and implementing security measures. Further to general security duties and tasks, the incumbent will act as a back-up driver for the Embassy and provide office assistance as needed.
Roles and responsibilities:
Security & Safety:
- Control access to the premises and verify visitor identity;
- Monitor CCTV, alarms, access points and surrounding areas;
- Screen incoming mail and deliveries using security equipment;
- Respond to alarms, incidents and emergency situations as required;
- Provide security support during events and functions.
Driving:
- Provide driving support in line with organisational procedures;
- Act as a back up driver, including out of hours and weekend cover when needed.
Reception & Front Desk:
- Act as the first point of contact for visitors;
- Operate the telephone switchboard;
- Receive and distribute incoming and internal mail.
Administrative & Event Support:
- Support the organisation and preparation of official events.

Essential on arrival:
- Proficiency in English and one of the BiH constituent languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian) at a minimum of a C1 level accordingly to CEFR*;
- Minimum of three years’ professional experience in security services;
- Clean and valid driving licence with a minimum of five years’ driving experience;
- Strong problem solving ability;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others;
- High attention to detail and ability to follow procedures;
- Flexible, reliable and quick to learn;
- Good computer skills with experience using MS Office.

This is a full-time position of 5 working days, 41 hours per week.
The position is offered initially for one year with a possibility of extension upon successful completion of a six month probation period and subject to the availability of funding.
British Embassy Sarajevo supports flexible working options that are in line with our policies and agreed with line manager.
British Embassy Sarajevo will provide opportunities for learning and development. In addition to access to the UK’s Diplomatic Academy online learning offer, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake advanced driver training.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Bosnia-Herzegovina in order to apply.
The successful candidate will be hired under the Terms and Conditions of British Embassy Sarajevo and social contributions will be paid accordingly.
The monthly salary for this position is 3,568.17 BAM gross per month. In addition, members of staff receive a meal allowance and transport allowance as per Terms & Conditions.
Staff members recruited locally by the British Embassy in Bosnia-Herzegovina are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Bosnia-Herzegovina employment law.
