The British Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is offering an exciting internship opportunity to work across multiple UK Government departments under the One HMG (His Majesty’s Government) platform. This is a unique chance to develop practical skills, build professional networks, and gain insight into diplomacy, trade, policy, communications, and corporate operations.
As an intern, you will work with a variety of teams, support high-profile activities, and contribute fresh ideas that help the Embassy deliver its objectives. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore how digital and AI tools can improve the way we work.
This role is ideal for someone who is adaptable, organised, digitally minded, and looking to make a meaningful contribution while gaining valuable professional experience.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Supporting Embassy Operations
- Coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, and taking accurate notes;
- Assisting with document preparation, filing, and office administration;
- Supporting travel and accommodation arrangements for staff and official visitors;
- Contributing to a variety of operational and administrative tasks across the Embassy.
Creating Engaging Communications
- Help draft and publish content for social media and campaigns promoting the UK;
- Create engaging content using digital tools, including basic graphics and video content;
- Contribute creative ideas to enhance public engagement and outreach activities.
Translation and Drafting
- Draft and translate documents between English and Azerbaijani;
- Support the preparation of reports, summaries, briefing materials, and official correspondence, including Note Verbales;
- Ensure communications are clear, accurate, and professional.
Supporting Official Visits and Events
- Assisting with planning and logistical arrangements;
- Managing invitations and guest coordination;
- Supporting official visits and high-profile engagements;
- Welcoming guests and representing the Embassy professionally.
Research and Reporting
- Monitoring local media and current affairs developments;
- Attending relevant briefings, conferences, and events;
- Producing concise reports and summaries;
- Providing insights to support policy, trade, and operational work.
Driving Innovation
- Using digital and AI tools to improve efficiency and collaboration;
- Supporting content creation, research, data organisation, and presentations;
- Identifying opportunities for smarter ways of working and process improvement.
You may also be asked to undertake additional tasks in support of evolving Embassy priorities.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- English and Azerbaijani,both written and spoken, at a C1 level according to CEFR Framework *;
- Bachelor’s Degree completed or Master’s in progress preferably in International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Business, Administration or a related field;
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
- Confidence in using digital tools and platforms, including social media;
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn AI tools for research, writing, and productivity;
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams;
- Proactive, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative;
- Confidence in using digital tools and platforms, including social media;
- Strong interest in current affairs, international relations, UK-Azerbaijan relations, or public policy;
- Curiosity and willingness to learn across a wide range of topics.

This is a full-time, fixed-term 6-month internship, 40 hours net per week.
The salary is USD 981.12 gross per month and shall be paid in AZN monthly.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Azerbaijan is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service of the FCDO according to local labour legislation.
All applicants should have the right to live and work in Azerbaijan. The British Embassy does not sponsor, nor does it provide assistance for obtaining work & resident permits.
