The UK Mission to the United Nations in New York is offering an exciting opportunity to join the Permanent Representative’s Private Office as an Administrative Officer.

You will provide administrative support to the UK Permanent Representative and the Private Office. The post-holder will work with stakeholders within and outside the UK Government across a wide range of issues. The role requires an adaptable, can-do approach, strong attention to detail, flexibility, and a willingness to learn across new and emerging areas.

- Executive assistant and diary support: Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Permanent Representative, Deputy Permanent Representative and Private Office team. This may include correspondence, expenses, and coordinating high-quality briefings and statements for UN meetings and events.
- Wider administration: support information management, briefing compilation, shared inbox management, incoming correspondence, budget planning and monitoring, annual leave management, and stationery / office supplies.
- Events support: Assist with in-person events, including invitations, RSVP management, coordination with external UN stakeholders, virtual room settings, speaker lists, and refreshments.
- Visits and logistics: Support incoming visits by UK Ministers, senior officials and UK election candidates, including programmes, logistics and catering.
- Team resilience: Cover for other members of the UKMIS Administrative Team as necessary, including some flexible hours.
- Policy development opportunity: For the right candidate, and where core duties are being well delivered, develop policy skills through opportunities such as attending UN meetings and events, supporting negotiations, drafting briefings and readouts, and contributing to policy discussions.
- Additional duties, tasks and projects as assigned
No staff or budget resource management. The role may require support to the Private Secretaries and Finance Officer to monitor section expenditure and update monthly budget reports.

- Previous work experience in a relevant field (office administration) or related education.
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
- Track record of organisational skills, including managing multiple tasks, calendar management, and strong attention to detail.
- Proactive and flexible team player, ready to help colleagues and sections when needed.
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and conduct administrative tasks.

Core Hours/Hybrid Working
Generally hours are Mon- Friday 9-5pm. Events hosted by the Ambassador will require will require some flexibility outside of regular core hours. This role is full-time, office-based role, with hybrid work only on rare occasions based on workload and executive/team needs. Hybrid working arrangements not available.
The role is 40 Hours per week, occasional overtime expected especially during High Level Season (UNGA), Mon-Friday, this job is eligible for OT. Flexibility is expected occasionally.
Employees will be expected to work from office full-time during the first 90 days of employment. After this time employees may work from home no more than 40% of the working week, subject to operational needs.

Unique Tax Rules
Please note that the tax arrangements imposed by the US on staff working for foreign governments, as well as those imposed by the UK Treasury on British and dual nationals working for the UK Government overseas, are atypical. The UK Government cannot withhold taxes (including FICA) on behalf of a US taxpayer. Instead, a US taxpayer is required to file taxes as if they are self-employed, and a FICA allowance is granted for those required to pay the employer contribution. Certain categories of staff (for example dual UK-US nationals and some visa holders) who work at Consulates General are not subject to US taxes. For those not subject to US taxes the UK Government reduces gross pay to a level broadly equivalent to taxed net pay. There are also social security implications for dual UK-US nationals. Please keep all this in mind when looking at the salary and the benefits package.
