Your Challenge

The International Programmes Department is responsible for the implementation of the War Child programme strategy according to our Theory of Change and agreed upon program quality standards. War Child’s International Programmes (IP) Department consists of Regional Representatives (who line manage Country Directors), Program Directors for Humanitarian Aid, Can’t Wait to Learn Programme and Team Up Programme, Program Quality and Program Partnerships and Grants.

As Strategic Coordinator IP you apply your project management skills and experience with change management to support the IP team in ensuring alignment between the overall strategy of War Child, different departmental strategies as well as wider organisational strategies and (change) plans. Your experience in setting up consultative processes and facilitation and your analytical and communication skills allow you to keep the overview of the overarching process, ensure the cohesion and interconnectedness of improvement action in a timely and coordinated way.

As Strategic Coordinator IP you report directly to the Director International Programmes (DIP) and inform the DIP on the course of the implementation of its projects as well as advise on the overall IP developments and processes. You work closely with heads of departments and country teams and relevant steering and working groups.

This role can be carried out from one of War Child’s offices (by equal suitability, preference will be given to local applicants). A successful candidate must be eligible to work in the country of preference.

Your responsibilities:

Advising and informing on strategy (development)

· Provide advice, information and support regarding (complex) strategy issues and opinions, and functions as sparring partner on IP-specific or organisation-wide topics

· Comply (complex) documents when required and ensure follow-up

· Ensure knowledge management (logical and retrievable filing of all project documents and proper version management) and knowledge transfer related to the progress in the organisational strategy

· Contribute to the implementation of the IP strategy and act as contact person for questions related to the IP strategy.

Coordinating (multi-annual) plans International Programmes

· Generate (IP management) information for the development, monitoring and implementation of (multi-annual) plans and draw up work schedules

· Keep Management up to date on process and progress (milestones), flag issues and risks, introduce improvements and inform stakeholders

· Support information sharing and prevention of duplication in IP of engagement in internal processes

· Support team members and signal lapses in the quality and timeliness of their work and/or their professional conduct

· Serve as back up of Executive Assistant for Core IP minute-taking and preparation of IP meetings.

Developing internal processes and projects and associated policies

· Monitor, identify and analyse relevant developments and translate them into opportunities and risks for the IP

· Prepare project plans and develop policies based on that analysis and on the IP’s goals

· Establish the timetable, budget, quality standards and required resources, within the boundaries of the project

· Present proposals to the DIP and/or Core IP for approval

· Compose project teams that accommodate the goals, the staff capacity and the possibility of hiring third parties

· Arrange for relevant stakeholders to be informed as appropriate, and gauge expectations

· Lead on specific IP projects in coordination with IP team and the wider organization. Provide support to project leaders in project management (adequate use of project management tools and documents) and monitor progress

· Organise and chair meetings and prepare the needed documents.

Facilitating and improving work processes

· Advise on and facilitate IP work processes

· Make improvements to working methods and procedures

· Actively contribute to the continual process of improving the quality of the services in the Coordinator’s specific programme/project/policy.

Your Profile:

· A university degree in a relevant field

· A minimum of 7 years of experience with project management in a development/humanitarian aid organisation

· Experience and ability to move between process management, change management, tactical and operational issues and contribute with relevant content

· Ability to grasp the organizational strategy and to facilitate and support the IP department’s strategy development and implementation (incl. writing policies, drafting strategy documents, etc.)

· Capacity to design and implement consultation processes which add to the quality of decisions and build the confidence of participants in the outcomes

· Strong project management skills, with the ability to design, lead and deliver results across multiple simultaneous project

· Experience with organisational improvement processes

· Knowledge of Programme Partnerships, Programme Implementation and Scaling is appreciated

· Strong analytical skills and ability to cope with a high-paced environment

· Excellent writing and data management skills and good meeting facilitation skills

· Communication skills which clearly and transparently ensure that all stakeholders have the information they need to feel engaged in the process

· Good budgeting skills and longer range financial planning

· A personal profile that brings positive energy, can-do mentality and a sense of both humour and perspective

· Full professional proficiency in English (French, Spanish or Arabic are an asset)

· Understanding and full support of War Child’s mandate, mission and vision

· Preparedness to travel to WCH locations

· Available for 40 hours per week.

· Eligible to work in the preferred War Child’s office.

Our offer **

· Dutch contract with the salary range from €3296 to €4264 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact step determined by the years of your relevant working experience)

· 26 vacation days (based on 40 hours per week), plus 2 additional fixed free days

· Vacation allowance of 8% of the annual salary

· A contributory pension scheme

· Laptop to work from any location and mobile phone contribution of €25 per month
