Main Purpose of Job
As Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), this is an exciting opportunity to join a small, dynamic team at the heart of planning and delivering UK participation. The successful delivery of CHOGM will be a key priority for the High Commission throughout 2026.
The successful applicant will be a strong team player, capable of delivering shared objectives to tight deadlines, while working closely with a diverse range of colleagues, many of whom are based overseas.
Following CHOGM, the focus of the High Commission will evolve, and this role will adapt accordingly. The post holder will therefore need to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as priorities shift and the balance of responsibilities changes over time. They will generate insight into the political, economic and security situation in Antigua and Barbuda and impact on UK interests, deliver incoming visits and promote the positive portrayal of UK policies in Antigua and Barbuda.

Roles and Responsibilities
- In close collaboration with the Resident British Commissioner, ensure the UK is accurately informed of political developments in Antigua and Barbuda, including those in the security, climate change and growth sectors, through insightful analysis and prompt reporting.
- Involvement in the whole cycle of planning and delivery of visits to Antigua and Barbuda by UK officials, VIPs and Royals. This can include planning itineraries, proposing meetings, liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other partners, making transport arrangements, preparing written and verbal briefings and accompanying visitors.
- Work closely with the Regional Communications team, based in Bridgetown, to deliver our communications strategy. Help organise events and identify projects that support delivery of High Commission goals e.g. growth, security and climate change etc. Maintain good relationships with media organisations in Antigua and Barbuda. Drafting and dissemination of press releases and articles. Preparation of relevant background and speaking notes for media appearances.
- In-country lead officer for the UK’s scholarships programmes with responsibility for administering scholarships, liaison with scholars and the alumni, and organising events to promote the programme.
- When other High Commission staff are absent assist to deliver essential duties required for the effective functioning of the High Commission.
- Complete required crisis training and contribute to mission-wide crisis preparedness activities.
- Undertake additional administrative and operational tasks, as directed by the line manager, in support of business priorities.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or 3 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in the English Language
- Detailed understanding of local political and economic system.
- Strong network of local contacts across the political spectrum, media and in wider society.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
- Excellent organisational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience drafting professional materials such as reports, briefings, press releases, or speaking notes
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to work calm under pressure.
- Must hold a valid driver’s licence

Candidates must have the legal status to live and work in Antigua and Barbuda at time of application.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

Additional Information
• Probation Period: 6 months
• Induction & Coaching: Provided for the successful candidate

o Group medical coverage after one month of service.

Working Hours
The role requires flexibility within a 38-hour work week. This may include evening and occasional weekend duties. Paid overtime will be granted for hours worked beyond 38.
