The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Migration Officer under the Home Office, job grade Executive Officer (EO), on a fixed term contract of one (1) year.
The jobholder will facilitate cooperation and engagement on the return and reintegration of Egyptian nationals unlawfully in the UK. Build effective working relationships on migration and returns with internal and external stakeholders, including within the Egyptian Government.
To take direction from and to support the North Africa Returns and Reintergration Manager based in Algiers and Returns Logistics (RL) in Croydon on the delivery of regional migration and returns objectives, including case work and administrative assistance.
You will also support Home Office International Operations on the delivery of its objectives in Egypt, including investigations and liaison to tackle immigration related threats to the UK. To support implementation and programme management of the Home Office Returns Reintegration Programme (HORRP) as directed by RL Reintegration Delivery Team (RDT).
You are expected to support the work of BE Cairo to maintain a respectful, inclusive and effective embassy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertaking casework to facilitate returns.
- Building and managing relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and facilitating engagement on migration and returns. The jobholder will be expected to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, utilising these relationships to ensure the achievement of UK migration and the returns agenda.
- Developing and overseeing migration and returns projects.
- Supporting Home Office International Operations on its activities in Egypt.
- Reporting to Home Office and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on migration and returns developments in Egypt and the region.
- Providing administrative and organisational support to Home Office and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office colleagues on migration and returns.
- Travel within Egypt, North Africa and to the UK as required and agreed.
- Supporting and participating with the operational delivery of the Home Office Returns Reintegration Programme (HORRP).
- Reviewing in-country delivery partner finances to ensure spend is in-line with the contract to ensure the HORRP delivers value for money utilising an Activity Based Budget (ABB) approach.
The jobholder must be aware of, and be involved in, any Post contingency and evacuation planning and response.

Eligibility:
If you are selected for this position, the Embassy will be able to employ you as long as you:
- Have the right to work and live in Egypt; and
- Receive the appropriate level of security clearance.
Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 1,736 per month, subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations, based on a 36 hours per week. Normal working hours are from Sunday to Wednesday 08:00-15:30 and Thursday 08:00-14:00.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training and development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This role is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term contract of one (1) year, subject to three (3) months’ probationary period.

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidate’s profile and UK footprint. Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
