We are now seeking a talented Europe Regional Chevening Programme Officer to help shape the next chapter of Chevening in Europe.
Who are we?
The British Embassy Lisbon hosts the Regional Chevening Programme Officer for Western Europe and forms part of a global network delivering the UK Government’s flagship international scholarship programme.
Chevening supports exceptional individuals with leadership potential from around the world through fully funded scholarships and fellowships. This role forms part of the relaunch of Chevening in Western Europe and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and long-term success of the programme across multiple countries.
Main purpose
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, organised and collaborative individual to play a key role in supporting the delivery and growth of the Chevening programme across Western Europe.
The Regional Chevening Programme Officer is a coordination, advisory and stakeholder engagement role. You will support participating Posts to deliver the programme effectively and consistently by providing guidance, sharing best practice, supporting promotional activities, strengthening partnerships and helping ensure high standards of programme delivery across the region.
As Regional Chevening Programme Officer, you will:
- Support British Embassies across Western Europe to successfully deliver and promote the Chevening programme.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders across multiple countries and organisations.
- Coordinate regional outreach, engagement and promotional activities to attract high-quality applicants and raise awareness of Chevening.
- Lead virtual engagement events and support Posts with communications and branding materials.
- Provide advice, guidance and training to colleagues throughout the annual scholarship cycle.
- Support partnership development and help identify opportunities to grow the programme across the region.
- Monitor programme delivery, timelines and compliance requirements, helping ensure a consistent and high-quality approach across participating countries.
- Support the development of active and engaged Chevening alumni networks across Western Europe.
- Share best practice and contribute to the continuous improvement of programme delivery across the region.

Our Ideal Candidate Shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English, written and spoken (minimum C1 for CEFR framework*);
- Experience coordinating and delivering projects, programmes, campaigns or other activities involving multiple stakeholders, including planning, communication and relationship management;
- Experience of working independently, managing competing priorities and delivering to deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to collaborate across teams and build effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in different locations;
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide guidance, advice or support to a range of audiences;
- Personal resilience, adaptability and the ability to regularly review, reprioritise and respond to changing business needs.

This is a fixed-term, full-time contract (35 hours net per week) subject to a 30 days of probation period.
The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of € 32,503.39 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments; plus a monthly meal allowance of €193.60. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, he / she will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
