The British Embassy Amman has a temporary vacancy for a Trade Adviser – Regional Surge, job grade Executive Officer (EO), within the Department for Business Innovation Science and Trade (DBIST). This is a temporary role for 4 months.
Main purpose of the role:
This role is based in Jordan, and the job holder will provide flexible surge support to trade and investment priorities across the wider Middle East and Pakistan region. The role will support priority MEaP objectives across the network, specifically including i) supporting the BIST regional Export Support Services and ii) several large regional events being delivered over the next quarter.
The role will also help teams respond to short-term business needs, priority campaigns, visits, market access work and stakeholder engagement, while maintaining a strong Jordan base and supporting local delivery where required. The jobholder will work closely with DBIST colleagues in Jordan, the wider DBIST Middle East Regional Team and cross-government partners to deliver practical trade and investment outcomes across the region.
The jobholder will be expected to manage relationships, visit programmes, stakeholder engagement and assigned regional workstreams, balancing Jordan-based responsibilities with wider surge support across the region.
Roles and responsibilities:
Key responsibilities:
- Regional surge support and prioritisation: Provide flexible, responsive support to DBIST teams across the Middle East and Pakistan region, helping to deliver priority MEaP objectives where short-term capacity is needed most, including support to BIST regional Export Support Services and large regional events over the next quarter.
- Stakeholder engagement and business development: Build and manage effective relationships with internal teams, business stakeholders, government contacts and investors across Jordan and the wider region to identify opportunities, support delivery and strengthen UK trade outcomes.
- Priority campaigns and export wins: Support delivery of regional campaigns and sector priorities, including identifying leads, coordinating inputs, tracking progress and helping teams convert opportunities into tangible export and investment wins.
- Visits, events and mission delivery: Provide surge support for trade missions, senior visits, webinars, market briefings and stakeholder programmes across the region, including planning, coordination, briefing and follow-up.
- Market insight and problem solving: Draw on market knowledge, research and stakeholder feedback to help teams understand opportunities, barriers and practical routes to progress in Jordan and other priority markets as required.
- Cross-network collaboration: Work closely with UK Government colleagues, including UK Export Finance, Trade Policy, Economy and Prosperity teams and Regional Sector Leads, to coordinate activity and share best practice across posts.
- Corporate contribution and flexibility: Contribute flexibly to Embassy Amman and regional priorities, including corporate activity, emergency planning and crisis response, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing operational demands.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

- Relevant experience in business development, trade, investment, stakeholder engagement or programme delivery, ideally in an international or regional context.
- Good understanding of trade and investment issues, with the ability to quickly build knowledge of regional markets.
- Previous DBT experience in the MEaP network.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build networks, manage competing asks and support teams to deliver practical outcomes.
- Proven ability to work proactively, independently and at pace, adapting quickly to shifting priorities and short-term operational demands.
- Ability to spot business opportunities, solve problems and contribute to wider team and regional objectives.

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a start pay of JOD 1,707 per month based on 37 hours per week.
Salary will be paid in gross, and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities. If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary, which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax. Further information on this will be provided at interview if necessary.
This role is for a full-time employment, on a temporary contract for four (4) months. The successful candidate will be subject to a 30-day probationary period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
The role is based at British Embassy Amman but will provide flexible surge support to regional DBIST priorities, which may include supporting activity in other Middle East and Pakistan markets remotely and, where required, through travel for business needs. The jobholder should is expected to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as operational needs may involve out-of-hours work, including evenings and weekends, particularly during visits and events.
Normal working hours at the Embassy are Sundays to Wednesdays from 08:00-15:30 and Thursdays from 08:00-15:00. Working hours for this role are working hours at the Embassy are Sundays to Thursdays from 08:00-16:00. The team is on on-call rotation. Hours of work vary for this role according to operational requirements in agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
