Who are we?
The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, trade, and consular interests overseas, and is now looking for a Videographer and Social Media Manager.
Main purpose of the job:
You will be responsible for creating high-quality digital content and managing the Embassy’s social media presence, with a particular focus on Instagram, X and LinkedIn. Working closely with the Communication Manager, you will enjoy significant autonomy to develop creative and engaging content that supports Embassy objectives and reaches diverse audiences.
The role requires excellent videography, photography and editing skills, strong creativity, and a passion for digital storytelling. You will serve as the Embassy’s principal photographer and videographer, accompanying the Ambassador and other diplomats to events and regional visits, identifying opportunities to capture and share compelling content.
You will have excellent written English, Kazakh and Russian language skills, alongside substantial experience managing social media channels and delivering effective digital communications.
As a key member of the Embassy’s Communications team, you will contribute to the delivery of the UK’s strategic objectives in Kazakhstan, working closely with colleagues across Political, Economic, Trade and Investment, Defence, Consular and British Council teams. You will help ensure that Embassy communications are consistent, impactful and aligned with wider public diplomacy goals.
Working within a small, two-person communications team, you will also be expected to adopt a flexible approach and support a range of communications activities, including event delivery, media engagement and other corporate priorities as required.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Producing an excellent standard of engaging video content.
- Ensuring a regular flow of high-quality, creative social media content across all Embassy social media accounts.
- Using emerging technologies and new tools to enhance social media impact.
- Thinking creatively to capture attention and bring new life and energy to Embassy public communications.
- Accompanying Ambassador and other diplomats to events and on some regional travel to take video and photos. Providing photography and videography services to all teams in the Embassy.
- Providing interpretation and translation services when required.
- Conducting social media campaigns, tracking analytics and creating reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns.
- Maintaining the Embassy website.
- Maintaining digital media archives including photos and videos.
- Supporting the Communications Manager and wider embassy with events organisation, traditional media engagement and some corporate functions.

Essential on arrival:
- fluency in English, Russian and Kazakh written and spoken (minimum of C1 CEFR level language*).
- Extensive and demonstrable experience producing video content with a portfolio available to share on request.
- Confident user of traditional and new digital media tools i.e., Photo and video cameras, smartphones and apps, computers, microphones, projectors, editing/production software, monitoring & evaluation tools etc.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, creatively and collaborate with others.
- Strong organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Good time management, ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to have:
- A degree in Communications, Journalism, Media, Marketing, Film Production, Digital Media, Public Relations or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in content creation and social media management.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract with possibility of renewal of 12 months subject to a 3 months probation period.
Salary will be 1,751 USD per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.
The start date mentioned in the advert is just an expected start date. The appointment can start earlier or later depending on several factors. Flexible working may be accommodated on request.
Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible.
Visa/work permit requirements: The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan. The British Embassy does not sponsor applications for work permits.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kazakhstan are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service based on Kazakhstan employment law.
