Level: Officer Classification: LEO2 (new classification – former LE-09) Location: Embassy of Canada in Seoul, Republic of Korea Closing date for applications: 25-04-2021 at 23:59 UTC+1 / GMT+1 Summary of position: Working in the international business development team of the Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Korea under the general direction of the FS03 Trade Commissioner, the incumbent is a Senior Trade Officer acting as the focal point responsible for liaising with companies and governmental organizations, innovation support centers/organizations (e.g incubators/accelerators), venture capital (VC) stakeholders, and research centers and universities based in Korea and in Canada to promote and facilitate Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) partnerships. As a crosscutting theme covering all sectors, the incumbent will have to gather information about the STI ecosystems in Canada and Korea and work closely with all officers of the Trade Section in the Embassy, representatives of Canadian provincial offices in Seoul, other STI officers in the TCS network, colleagues in Global Affairs Canada headquarters and regional offices, and other key stakeholders in Canada, in addition to finding relevant partners in Korea to implement activities in support of the STI portfolio. The incumbent will also supervise a Trade Commissioner Assistant. Essential qualifications: Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications. Education: • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, economics, STI OR an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience. Language: • Fluency in English and Korean, both written and spoken; Experience: • A minimum of 8 years of employment experience of which at least 5 must be recent and direct experience in international business development; • Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients; • Experience in project management and network building; • Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues. • Experience in delivering virtual initiatives to support TCS clients in the Korean market Rated Requirements: The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment. Knowledge: • Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and Korean economies; • Knowledge of Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystems and trends in Canada and in Korea.
