WRI Overview

Internship Summary 

The internship offers learning opportunities in sustainable urban mobility, road safety, and new mobility, based within the Ross Center’s Urban Mobility program. As part of the Urban Mobility team, you will take on research and writing in support of ongoing knowledge products, webinars and events. Topics for this internship will include strategic approaches to road safety, accessibility challenges, political barriers and opportunities to change, or emerging mobility relevant to the developing world. This internship offers the opportunity to connect and work closely with our global team of sustainable mobility and urban development experts, and key stakeholders around the world.

Learning Outcomes 

The intern will gain experience in the following areas:  

• Urban Mobility, sustainable transport, road safety 

• Event planning and coordination 
• Writing and contributing to blogs, technical reports and papers 

Your main duties will include, but not be limited to, the following: 

• Conducting desktop research, literature reviews and synthesizing findings; Assist team members with collecting, analyzing and organizing data from various sources. 
• Researching, documenting, evaluating, and analyzing impacts of road safety initiatives 
• Documenting and preparing case studies on emerging trends, best practices, and policies in urban mobility and city planning. 
• Contributing written and graphic content to publications, reports, papers, and presentations. 
• Supporting WRI urban mobility webinars, major events and workshops. 

Internship Qualifications 

• University Sponsored: You must be a graduate student currently enrolled in the Yale School of Environment returning for Fall of 2021. 
• Superb and detail-oriented writing skills 
• Excellent editing, research, and oral communication skills 
• Demonstrable previous experience in research and writing projects, organizing and coordinating large events. 
• Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines and competing demands 
• Comfortable interning remotely 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Fluency or near-fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese) 
• Demonstrated interest related to urban mobility, transportation planning, road safety or another relevant field. 

General Internship Requirements 

• Applicants must have personal health insurance coverage.  
• U.S. work authorization is required for this opportunity. WRI does not sponsor interns for visas. 

Compensation  

• University Sponsored: Students will receive compensation from their university program.   

Duration and Location  

• This is a full-time summer internship with start date options of May 17, June 1, or June 16, 2021 based on the student’s availability and need for the project.   
• This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.    
• WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
