About the role

The International Group at the European Climate Foundation is looking for an Associate to support the International Climate Politics Hub (ICPH) Secretariat. The Associate role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Secretariat team and a global network who work together to increase international political ambition and action on climate action.

The Associate will help ensure the implementation of the ICPH strategy primarily through delivery of regranting portfolio, as well as through engagement with a wide range of partners including civil society, think tanks, business groups, and climate experts.

The role will suit a candidate with excellent organizational capabilities and experience with strategic regranting.

Key responsibilities

The post holder will play a key role in strategy implementation, grant and relationship management, and monitoring and evaluating the progress of different work streams. Responsibilities include:

  • Grant-making: working with the ICPH Secretariat team, other ECF programmes and the grant-making support hub, the Associate will have hands on involvement in the entire grant-making cycle. This includes providing input into the grant-making strategy, helping to identify relevant and/or new grantees, commissioning projects and analysis, soliciting proposals from potential partners and ensuring alignment with ICPH objectives, reviewing and evaluating grantee proposals, preparing draft grant recommendations, acting as a liaison with grantees, and helping to manage the programme budget;
  • Project and network management: supporting the Directors and team to hold and develop relationships with grantees and partners, monitor grant deliver and progress towards strategy, help research and plan out specific aspects of the regranting strategy and the delivery of key workstream deliverables through frequent communication with partners, colleagues and funders, ensuring accountability;
  • Internal coordination and communication: liaise with team members and other ECF colleagues as needed to ensure proper and timely dissemination of information, and complementarity of different projects and work streams across the organization.

Experience and competencies

  • Strong interest in climate action and environment;
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in grant making and/or project management, preferably from an international climate context;
  • Excellent attention to detail, diligence and reliability; ability to prioritize tasks and to operate independently; strong administrative and computer skills;
  • Achieving efficient, timely, quality results by directing efforts on expected outcomes, while remaining ready to learn and receive feedback;
  • Team-minded attitude, excellent coordination and cooperation skills to work harmoniously with a tight-knit and highly collaborative team;
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, readiness to engage positively, diligently, patiently and efficiently with stakeholders and partners across cultures and regions;
  • Proactive attitude and ability to follow through with smart and adaptive implementation plans, a creative and positive spirit;
  • Availability to work across time zones while maintaining a healthy work and life balance;
  • Excellent command of the English language (both spoken and written).
