Overview

This position is part of the Executive Office, and reports to the Research and Engagement Associate. The Executive Office is formed of the President and CEO, the Chief of Staff, and the General Counsel and key staff who work with leaders in government, business, and the nonprofit community to forge alliances that further the Institute’s work; with media to spread WRI’s messages; and internally with staff across the WRI network on the development and resourcing of programmatic work.

Internship Summary

In this role, you will support WRI’s Interim President and CEO Manish Bapna and will report to the Interim President’s Research and Engagement Associate to curate information from across the Institute for the Interim President’s publications, presentations and social media. Your work will cover the broad swath of items that WRI works on – energy, food, forests, water, cities, climate, economics, business, finance, governance, equity, ocean – and focus on creating cohesive messages.  You will write talking points, briefs and short background notes to support meetings, contribute to blogs, WRI knowledge products and external publications, engage with internal and external counterparts, and provide administrative and logistical support to ensure the Interim President is equipped to deliver on external and internal engagements.  

Job Responsibilities:

Research and Communication (75%)

  • Support on research and development of content for the Interim President & CEO’s speaking engagements and publications
  • Synthesize current research and trends related to WRI’s portfolio
  • Track upcoming publications and speaking engagements
  • Support various forms of communication, such as social media, web content, narrative development and other influence tools
  • The intern will also choose one long term project which supports the organization, working with the Interim President’s Research and Engagement Associate

Administrative (25%)

  • Organizational support with workshops, conferences and other event related items
  • Support with scheduling meetings related to the President and CEO’s engagements
  • Maintain WRI’s intranet for the Interim President & CEO’s presentations

Internship Qualifications

  • Completed or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience or understanding of economics, climate change, sustainability, and the environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills
  • Excellent data collection and management skills—e.g., through Microsoft Excel or similar
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong computer skills
  • Commitment to WRI’s mission
  • Comfortable interning remotely

General Internship Requirements

  • Applicants must have personal health insurance coverage.
  • Must be willing and able to work US East Coast time zone hours.
  • US work authorization is required for this opportunity. WRI does not sponsor interns for visas.

Compensation

The pay range for this internship opportunity is between $15-18/hour, commensurate with qualifications.

Duration and Location

This is a full-time, six-month (24 week) internship with flexible start and end dates. This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens. WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
