Project Engineer

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and/or in close coordination with the State Engineer, Engineering Section, the UNV Project Engineer (Civil Engineer) is responsible for the following duties:

  • Prepare on camp construction plan to construct UN camp and compound;
  • Perfom on water and wastewater management plan and prepare SOR /SOW;
  • Perform on managing airport, road, bridge and culvert site survey on UNMISS main supply route and prepare survey and design report for its implementiton;
  • Prepare BOQ, cost estimate, drawings, Statement of Work (SOW), technical specifications and bidding documents for mission engineering projects / programs both in house /outsourced projects;
  • Perform on frequent for site visit to monitor the project activities and advise technical check/matters of implementing quality control activities, design, working drawing, health & safety measure;
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities and effective implementation of projects;
  • Conduct Technical Evaluations of Bids and prepare Technical Evaluation Reports for projects;
  • Represent on behalf of Engineering and provide response on technical matters;
  • Coordinate with concerned reconstruction authority and others project stakeholders in the project management and reporting of all on­ going engineering projects;
  • Conduct site assessments for construction works and other engineering projects;
  • Liaise with project stakeholders to implement project activities;
  • Ensurie of timely issuance, delivery and correct prioritization of Engineering Supplies, Materials and Equipment;
  • Identifying all routine engineering project requirements within project management team; preparing, implementing and controlling appropriate methods to cater for them; ensuring optimal utilization of available resources in order to provide engineering project management support to Mission clients and Field Locations;
  • Maintain accurate project records and files;
  • Update the project DASH board on weekly basis and report to pillar heads;
  • Monitor, review, and coordinate project design and construction in Engineering work with Field Engineers in the Project Management and reporting of all on-going Priority Projects within the Mission;
  • Prepare as built drawings, design, cost estimate, scope of work, technical specification, raising shopping carts for various types of engineering projects and technical evaluation of the bids;
  • Verification of work progress, measurements, quality test result and payment certification;
  • Perform other tasks as per requirement of the section.


Bachelor degree or equivalent


  • Degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited and internationally or nationally recognized university;
  • Registered Engineer with an internationally recognised body is desirable.


36 Months

  • Three years of active professional experience with consulting architects/engineers and international construction business;
  • Experience in airfield, roads and bridge, camp construction;
  • Experience in water and wastewater management skills;
  • Project management experience;
  • Experience in a multi-national organisational environment is desirable;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to prioritise tasks and handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion;
  • Have a valid driver’s license and proven ability to drive a manual 4×4 vehicle.

  • English(Mandatory), Level – Fluent


Civil engineering and construction supervision

  • Solid computer skills in MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc);
  • Proficiency in AutoCad;
  • Microsoft Project;
  • Prince 2 or PMP Certification is desirable.
