Program Manager, Food, Forests, Water and Ocean Program

Job Summary

In this role you will augment a small team in Sydney, Australia. You will lead key operational functions of the Indonesian Intact Rainforest Partnership (the Partnership)  as well as delivery of program outcomes. We are looking for someone with highly honed project management skills to coordinate all aspects of the complex work of the project and ensure we progress toward our goals. You will also lead the team’s fundraising efforts and support budgeting. In terms of project delivery. You will also lead one of the Partnership’s work-strands.

The position would suit someone trained in project management and business skills looking for their chance to be part of changing the world or someone with practical experience of community and international development looking to use their experience to help defend some of the world’s most important remaining forests.

Job Responsibilities

Operational

  • Manage the Partnership’s multiple work-streams, ensuring all aspects of a complex and ambitious program are progressing in a timely and effective manner. This will require the ability to coral busy people and hold them to task
  • Develop documentation that captures workplans and sets out tasks, augmenting delivery. Implementing the best tools to do this, including cutting edge IT solutions
  • Assist the fundraising for the project. While the project has assured core funding for four years, many of our workstreams require additional funding. This task will be supported by the development team at WRI
  • Lead the day-to-day relationships associated with the support services for the project within WRI internationally, particularly the budget.

Program Delivery

  • Lead a key workstream
  • The initiative seeks to coordinate and catalyze interventions to facilitate low carbon futures
  • Team members take the lead on one or more workstreams suited to their interest and skills. This includes strategic direction setting, managing partners and ensuring delivery

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field required (or two additional years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree); MBA desirable
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant full time experience required
  • Training and experience in project management including management of budgets, contracts and relationships, including business management skills
  • Proven high level of organizational skills and reliability in delivery of tasks, including proven experience of working unsupervised
  • Self-starting: working in a small team seeking to catalyze change, the ability to lead, motivate and work independently is essential
  • Confident, dedicated, determined, with positive, flexible, ‘can do’ attitude
  • A passion for addressing climate change, sustainable development and conservation issues and an interest in Indonesia and its forests is preferable
  • Practical experience in community and international development would be beneficial
  • Commitment to WRI’s mission and institutional values
  • Possession of Australian nationality/work permit and be able to work in Sydney starting immediately

Potential Salary:
 $96,000 – $130,000(if based in USA). Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.

Program Overview

The Indonesian Intact Rainforest Partnership is a project of the World Resources Institute that aims to support provincial and central governments of Indonesia to pursue alternative and sustainable economic development in provinces with large amounts of intact forest cover. The partnership is designed to help amplify and catalyze partners, skills and alliances across governments, business, NGOs and local communities to support the realization of an alternative development pathway.
