WRI China was established in 2008 as WRI’s first country office. Currently WRI China has more than 30 full-time staff working on climate change, energy, cities, transport, food, green investment, and other sustainability issues. Our goal is to support China in building a prosperous, low-carbon, and climate resilient society in line with the global 1.5-2°C goal. More specifically, we aim to facilitate and accelerate low-carbon and climate resilient development in China towards achieving carbon emissions peak well before 2030 and carbon neutrality well before 2060. To do so, we engage with businesses, policymakers, and civil society at the local, national and international levels to advance transformative solutions that mitigate climate change and help communities adapt to its impacts.

 

 

Position Summary

 

In line with our expanding Climate and Energy Program, we are seeking a Research Analyst to support our “Vision 2050” initiative. Vision 2050 is an emerging work focusing on the nexus of environment, energy, economics and climate to support China build a strong foundation for long-term decarbonization. We work with governments, think tanks, and other stakeholders to facilitate China’s climate actions at both domestic and international arena. This position will contribute to our research, engagement, and communications in the fields of climate, energy, and economics in relation, but not limited, to the abovementioned Vision 2050 initiative. S/he will be based in Beijing with frequent domestic travels.

 

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct research and produce research products, strategic papers, and policy briefs on low-carbon development, energy transition, and other related topics.
  • Engage with stakeholders through roundtables, seminars, workshops, policy dialogues, training, and other communication and engagement activities.
  • Develop blog posts, commentaries, and other communication materials to reach out to the targeted stakeholders.
  • Manage the assigned projects, including project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Support team leaders to develop project ideas, concept notes, proposals, and other fundraising tasks.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A master’s degree in climate policy, energy, environmental economics, industrial economics, or other related fields.
  • Strong research skill with experience on partnership engagement and cultivation.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in professional work experience related to climate, energy, and/or economics work in China
  • Excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English.
  • Demonstrating team spirit with excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with staff and external stakeholders at all levels, and flexibility to work across different time zones.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
