Research Analyst Sustainable Cities Program WRI CHINA OFFICE

Overview

WRI-China Sustainable Cities Program is seeking a full-time Transportation Analyst to provide research, data analysis and other support to its Cities team which conducts research on sustainable transport and urban development, and supports Cities Network projects in China, Southeast Asia, and around the world. The research analyst will support several projects related to road safety, sustainable mobility, healthy city, and Belt and Road green city development. The projects will require working on topics of non-motorized transport planning and design, safe street design and road safety inspections, impact analysis of projects, sustainable transport best practices, national policy, and project management.

 

Job Summary

The Transport Analyst position aims to provide research, project operation and management support to WRI China’s road safety and healthy cities program. The position will conduct research, site survey (road safety audits and inspections), and data collection and analysis to produce reports, blogs, and other knowledge and communication products. The position will also support the management of the program by coordinating with partners and internal networks, organizing meetings, processing contracts and payments, and producing periodic reports to donors.

 

Job Responsibilities

Research & Knowledge

  • Conduct desktop research, literature reviews and synthesize findings; Co-author knowledge products and produce reports, presentations highlighting findings.
  • Assist other researchers with analysis, reviews, writing, and drawing.
  • Perform transport data collection, verification, visualization, and analysis, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Undertake field work as required, including inspections and audits.

 

Writing & Editing

  • Contribute written and graphic content to publications, reports, papers, and presentations.
  • Prepare project-related content for blogs and communication products.

 

Project Management

  • Organize internal/external meetings, international workshops, national conferences, local capacity building workshops, and other dissemination activities to enlarge the influence of projects.
  • In collaboration with senior level staff, manages outcomes of the projects.
  • Process and execute project commitments through contracts, purchase orders etc.

 

Grants and Financial Management

  • Support financial management of project, including project funding and budgets.
  • Support grant proposals and fundraising activities.
  • Support the preparation of donor and institutional reports.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban planning and design, civil engineering, or other related fields
  • Previous work experience in complete street, road safety, non-motorized transport or sustainable cities planning and design are desirable.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience and/or research in the above fields.
  • Experience using common 2D/3D visual production software, including Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis of data with software and ability to learn new software and computer systems quickly
  • Experience using ArcGIS or similar mapping software is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, juggle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines. Enjoys working in a fast-paced, results oriented non-profit environment.
  • Detail-oriented and organized thinker.
  • Competence to undertake high-profile research assignments with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Chinese and English fluency.
  • Some travel may be required.
