Position description
SOLIDAR is looking for a policy fellow in social affairs to support the implementation of the EASI Operating grant funded by the European Commision.
If you are analytical, perceptive, engaged with a burning heart for progressive development, social rights, and European politics, this is the position for you! We are looking for a candidate with a firm belief in the European labour and citizens’ movements, and social justice. This role in these trying times will support the work for the development of the Social Rights Monitor, SOLIDAR flagship publication that provides an overview of the status of social rights and socio-economic situation in Europe, while advocating for building a more fair, inclusive, social, and resilient Europe in a just transition.
This fellowship programme is open to activists, recent graduates, and students in the final phase of their master’s looking for an experience in a dynamic and international working environment. The role will allow you to discover the working environment of Civil Society Organisations in Brussels in a member-based European network. It will give you an introduction to strategic advocacy work on the EU level as well as an understanding of the impact on the national level.
Within the Social Affairs fellowship programme, fellows have an opportunity to support and analyse the policy developments on both the national and EU level in the area of social and employment policy, in particular in the framework of the European Semester and the European Pillar of Social Rights. The fellow will contribute to the work of SOLIDAR by supporting the team with desk research and overseeing the development of the annual publication Social Rights Monitor.
DURATION
SOLIDAR is looking for a policy fellow in the Social Affairs pillar who can start as soon as possible for a duration of 6 months. The person will be part of the Social Affairs Pillar and support the team in policy research while developing knowledge and experience of the fast-paced work of a network working on European Social Policy.
KEY TASKS
Under the supervision of the SOLIDAR Social Policy Coordinator, the fellow is expected to:
- Support the preparation of the national reports of the Social Rights Monitor and the elaboration of the final document.
- Provide support for the monitoring of EU policy impact with SOLIDAR members and partners.
- Support the drafting of briefing papers and desk studies about the social situation in EU Member States.
- Prepare the monthly Social Affairs Newsletter with updates from the secretariat, member organizations, EU policies and upcoming events.
- Provide support for the preparation and organisation of events, conferences, trainings, and advocacy activities in the framework of the Social Affairs Pillar, as well as for the drafting of activity reports after those events and activities.
- Supporting the team with ad hoc administrative tasks.
- Contribute to SOLIDAR Communication work when necessary.
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to conduct desk research.
- Well-developed writing skills and the ability to write briefing papers and monitoring reports as well as news articles.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong motivation to work in an NGO network.
- Interest in employment, inclusion, just transition, social policies, and fundamental rights.
- Eagerness to learn about EU policies and EU decision-making process.
- Fast learner and capacity to work with limited supervision and in a fast-paced project.
- Dedication to the values of SOLIDAR: Solidarity, equality and participation.
