Summary of position:
Under the general direction of a Canada-based Officer, a Designated Immigration Officer:
• Exercises delegated authority and discretion when making decisions in accordance with legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures in approving, granting, rejecting or refusing applications for permanent or temporary resident entry to Canada.
• Conducts interviews of temporary resident / permanent resident applicants.
• Participates in promotion and recruitment activities, project teams, and working groups.
• Composes correspondence, prepares statistics, reports, briefings and presentations.
• Provides and explains policies and procedures to clients, their representatives, partners and other stakeholders in person, by telephone and in writing.
• Reports information on trends of misrepresentation or non-compliance.
• Interprets or translates interviews, documents, and other material as required.
• Supervises staff, conducts performance management and may be involved in staffing exercises.

 

Essential qualifications:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
• A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university

Language:
• Excellent ability in oral and written English
• Excellent ability in oral and written Thai

Experience:
• A minimum of four years’ work experience in an office environment including a minimum of two years’ work experience using knowledge of regulations, legislation, or other rules or guidelines to:
– Analyse cases and make recommendations or decisions, OR;
– Understand client enquiries and provide technical or expert advice

RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:
Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.

• Ability to work effectively in French
• Master’s degree in a related discipline
• Experience working in immigration/ visa processing

 

Organizational Needs:

 

Operational Requirements:
• Hours of work 37.5 hours per week: Mondays-Thursday: 07:30 to 16:15; Fridays: 07:30 to 13:00;
• Must be able and willing to work overtime, as operationally required;
• Please note the Embassy operates a schedule of public holidays according to a combination of Thai and Canadian dates, which means you will be required to work on certain Thai holidays.
• The employee will no longer (or not) be on HOM Discretionary Leave;
• The employee is able and available to work on a full time basis at the mission or mission designated location, including working from home; and,
• The employee is able to be physically present in the office as required.

 

Condition(s) of Employment:
The successful candidate must:
• Be able to work legally in Thailand at the time of application. Please note that the Embassy of Canada in Thailand does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly.
• Have a valid “Reliability Status”. A security check is required prior to appointment as well as a medical examination. The required level of security clearance must be maintained throughout the employment period;

The successful candidate will initially join at the LE-O1 Migration Program Officer level. Following one year of supervised training and the successful completion of a multi-week course, the employee will be granted decision-making authority and be expected to work independently and perform the full range of duties as a Designated Migration Officer at the LE-O2 level.
