Save the Children Europe has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the– Advocacy Advisor – Maternity Coverin Brussel, Belgium on a fixed term contract until May 31, 2022
ROLE PURPOSE:
Brussels is home to the European Union, a regional institution with global impact, which plays a critical role in shaping children’s lives and helping to ensure their rights are fulfilled. The EU specifically addresses children’s rights and child protection concerns and has a direct role in relation to the situations of children who are vulnerable, marginalized, socially excluded and/or affected by poverty in Europe.
The Advocacy Advisor in Save the Children Europe will play a crucial role in ensuring that the EU implements and renews its commitment to protect, respect and promote children’s rights in Europe. He or she will play a central part in ensuring that Save the Children has a credible and visible presence in Brussels, and will have an active role in cross-organisational advocacy activities.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- Demonstrable advocacy experience in child poverty and social exclusion, child rights and child participation, at the European level either for a non-governmental organisation or international organisation
- Knowledge and understanding of the EU, and its role in social policies
- Experience of creating networks of influence, and an ability to manage diverse professional relationships, thereby securing significant new opportunities for the organisation
- A proven advocacy track record; the ability to speak and communicate effectively, and to tailor messages to different audiences
- Experience of successfully operating in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- A full appreciation of the value of cooperation within a team environment
- Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
- A commitment to and an understanding of NGO work on a European level
- Commitment to Save the Children’s values
- Ability to work and write in English and a good command of French
