Job Purpose

To develop and implement an advocacy campaign calling for the free evacuation of Ethiopian workers from Lebanon

Areas of Contribution & Related Accountabilities

  • Providing the Advocacy team with in-depth knowledge of the political system and current context in Ethiopia

  • Deciding on the strategy and timeline for the advocacy campaign calling for the free evacuation of Ethiopian workers from Lebanon

  • Leading on consultations with Ethiopian communities in Lebanon to inform the advocacy campaign

  • Establishing partnerships with activists, philanthropists and organizations in Ethiopia to advise on and endorse the advocacy campaign

  • Identifying key issues and demands related to the evacuation of Ethiopian workers from Lebanon, the reintegration of Ethiopian workers into the labor market in Ethiopia, and the recruitment processes in Ethiopia (formal and informal pathways)

  • Identifying risks related to the advocacy campaign and proposing mitigation strategies

  • Facilitating the connection and communication between Ethiopian workers in Lebanon and activists and organizations in Ethiopia

  • Drafting letters to the Ethiopian government and Ethiopian consulate in Lebanon

  • Establishing connections with Ethiopian journalists to cover the advocacy campaign

  • Giving media interviews as needed

Communications & Work Relationships

Internal Communication

  • Regular contact with Advocacy and Communications Manager, Advocacy and Communications Officer and Community Advocacy Coordinator

  • Occasional contact with Executive Director and Cases Team

External Communication

  • Regular contact with activists and organizations in Ethiopia, and Ethiopian workers in Lebanon

  • Occasional contact with government representatives in Ethiopia and Lebanon

Framework, Boundaries, and Decision Making Authority

The jobholder suggests possible solutions to the Advocacy and Communications Manager for final decision-making, and takes necessary actions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Masters degree or equivalent professional experience in Protection, Development Studies, Public Policy or relevant social sciences;

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the political and economic landscape of Ethiopia

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of human rights and migration issues, and the situation of migrant workers in Lebanon.

  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Amharic.

  • Proven ability to work independently.

  • Excellent analytical skills, interpersonal and communication skills, strategic thinking, teamwork.

  • Excellent organizational skills, team management skills and attention to detail.

  • Proactive and self-motivated.

Schedule and Salary

  • Schedule: 40 hours/week, negotiable.

  • Salary: $2250 USD – $2500 USD, depending on experience.
