A day in the life of an Area Coordinator, Middle East
This position is unaccompanied (no spouses or dependents).
Job Duties
- Responsible for leadership, direction, and oversight for Samaritan’s Purse Iraq operations in the Middle East.
- Manages Operations, Human Resources, Financial Management, and Community Relations for programs in designated areas.
- Supervises the following staff: Human Resources, Logistics, Receptionist, Finance, Security, Program Managers and Community Center Director.
- Assists in priorities workflow relevant to upcoming programming.
- Conducts Performance Reviews alongside respective department manager.
- Ensures coordination in the supervised area.
- Ensures that base operations are set up and implemented in line with Samaritan’s Purse policies.
- Ensures all programs are conducted in accordance with budgets; maintaining adherence to Samaritan’s Purse, donors, guidelines, and policies.
- Responsible for the use of all base budgets and projects budgets in designated areas.
- Works closely with Senior Programs Manager to ensure a high level of coordination and support to the programs team.
- Assists in strategic development of the country’s programs.
- Contributes to design and decisions related to beneficiary selection criteria and agreements with beneficiaries.
- Informed of assessments to be conducted to facilitate them mainly in terms of Government approvals.
- Assist Samaritan’s Purse security teams to monitor and assess fluid security environments.
- Executes security protocols in the event of an emergency at the discretion of Samaritan’s Purse Senior Leadership.
- Provides professional representation of Samaritan’s Purse at meetings with government, donor and civil society partners, actively, and strategically engaging with stakeholders to increase support and publicity for Samaritan’s Purse Programming.
- Follows policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.

In the role of Area Coordinator, you will provide overall management and leadership for Samaritan’s Purse Iraq operations in the Middle East. You will serve as the senior representative for activities related to Samaritan’s Purse Iraq’s humanitarian response in designated areas while seeking to promote success of area-specific programming and staff development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in Business, Economics, Health and Nutrition, Food Security, Livelihoods, or related field of study.
- 2-4+ years related experience and/or training.
- Proven management and leadership experience. Able to coach and mentor others.
- Public speaking and presentation skills.
- Clear understanding of the workings of major donors and their perspectives, requirements, and standards.
- Ability to coordinate activities with other agencies. Build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Strong management, organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills. A strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit.
- Possess time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. High level of integrity and stewardship.
- Ability to communicate and interact well with people of different ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience living and working overseas in Middle Eastern cultures (preferred), with ability to be flexible and adaptable.
- Ability to travel to field sites to monitor programs and work in difficult conditions under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and iForm.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Language: Fluency in English (required). Strong English language writing and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Language: Arabic skills (preferred).

Travel Expectations: Ability to travel to field sites to monitor projects. Maintaining required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary.
