Assistant Professor – Applied Gerontology (Nutrition Science & Wellness)


The Applied Gerontology program at Farmingdale State College invites applicants to apply for a full-time tenure track faculty assistant professor position. Candidates must have a terminal degree in Gerontology, Psychology, Sociology, or the Health Sciences with an aging emphasis. The Department of Nutrition Science and Wellness has a strong interest in promoting interdisciplinary research and leadership across and beyond the campus. Collaborative skills are essential. Experience teaching online courses using web-based course management systems a plus. Evidence of excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills is required.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentations, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school and college-wide committees. The faculty member may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online and traditional face-to-face classes

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned Doctorate in Gerontology or its equivalent. All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.

Some previous college teaching experience or five year’s work in a professional health related field.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three to five years college teaching experience.

Experience teaching through Distance Learning.

Ability to teach both lower and upper-division Gerontology courses.

Strong interpersonal attributes; excellent written and verbal skills.

Peer-reviewed scholarly presentations/publications in the field of Gerontology/Health Sciences.

Excellent program management and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, 10 month faculty position.

For the first 10 working days, beginning Monday, May 31, 2021 and ending Friday, June 11, 2021, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
