The Department of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of Music/Interdisciplinary Arts with a start date of September 1, 2022. Visual and Performing Arts, a growing department at WSU, offers a unique Interdisciplinary Visual Performing Arts major, offering core courses in art, music, theatre, and dance with an elective-based module allowing students to tailor the major to their own area of interest(s).
Job responsibilities include teaching Music History, World Music, Music Appreciation, Interdisciplinary Art Theory, and other courses as needed, including interdisciplinary and special topic courses; involvement in applied music as director of a small instrumental ensemble(s) and/or teaching individual instrumental applied lessons; participating in department meetings, serving on department and university committees, recruitment and advising; mentoring and advising senior thesis capstone projects; and continuing scholarship and/or creative work.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence; promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion; and creating, fostering, and sustaining a culture of collaboration in and out of the classroom.
Job Requirements:
Requirements:
PhD in Musicology or Ethnomusicology, conferred by September 1, 2022;
strong instrumental background in performance of classical repertoire and other contemporary styles/genres;
demonstrated effective teaching experience at the college level; and
a portfolio of scholarship and/or creative work.
