The Worcester State University Department of Philosophy invites applications for two tenure-track positions, both ranked Assistant Professor, to begin September 1, 2022.

The successful applicants will be well prepared to contribute to significant curriculum development and student engagement. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate teaching competency in some combination of the following courses (as well as developing new courses not yet in our catalog):

Business Ethics

Computing Ethics

Environmental Ethics

Medical Ethics

Social and Political Ethics

Buddhist Philosophy

Chinese Philosophy

Latin American Philosophy

Africana Philosophy

Race, Nation, Class, Gender, and Sexuality

Contemporary Asian Philosophy

Ancient Greek Philosophy

History of Modern Western Philosophy

19th Century European Philosophy

Existentialism and Phenomenology

Philosophy of Religion

They will demonstrate strong teaching skills, an active research program, and the ability to engage with a diverse community of state university undergraduates. The positions require a four/four course load, with the possibility of one online course per semester.

We strive to be generalists in teaching philosophy even as many of us conduct active research programs in specialized, often interdisciplinary areas, and we support each other in these pursuits.

The department plays a significant role in campus and community activism and in the creation and growth of interdisciplinary programming campus-wide. In light of this tradition, we seek to develop a curriculum that is compatible with a variety of interdisciplinary programs. We are especially interested in expanding our Ethics offerings. The person(s) hired into the department will be expected to contribute actively to department goals through excellent teaching and research, active recruitment and engagement with students, and course development.
