The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Associate in the Stockholm office. The Stockholm office serves as an important base for HRW’s activities in the Nordic countries. This position focuses on providing support in development, communication and outreach in Sweden. This position is full time and is anticipated to start in February 2021 and reports to the Nordic Director, based in Stockholm.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are currently closed or operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely in the interim.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support planning and implementation of all HRW activities and events in Sweden, both online and off-line, including but not limited to the annual Stockholm Voices for Justice event, as well as evaluation of designated events to identify best practices and lessons learned;

  2. Support and assist in the creation of development materials, newsletters, e-mailings, invitations, web content, and event-related mailings. Maintain and help grow the Swedish HRW accounts on social media, primarily Facebook, and Instagram, as needed;

  3. Provide development and fundraising support by prospect research, tracking gifts and donor databases by updating records and information, and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the data, and perform revenue reconciliation;

  4. Liaise with HRW Next Generation network, and develop, support and expand the network as appropriate;

  5. Recruit, mentor, and supervise interns based in the Stockholm office as needed; and

  6. Carry out other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, communication, international relations, social science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required, .

Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.

  2. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally are required.

  3. Ability to work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations is required.

  4. Strong interpersonal skills, including patience and a sense of humor, and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including donors are required.

  5. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required.

  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Swedish are required.

  7. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.

  8. Strong analytical skills and ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are required.

  9. Strong interest in human rights is required.

  10. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required; experience with Salesforce is desirable.
