Competitive Salary + Excellent Benefits
Fixed Term for 8-10 months

Do you want to help make the world a better place with your expertise of advocating for rights for marginalised groups, social justice, and corporate accountability? We are seeking an Associate Policy Officer for a fixed term period of 8-10 months, based in Brussels to provide support to OSEPI’s Internal Policy Team, in particular our work on EU anti-discrimination policy, labour rights, and corporate accountability.
The Open Society Foundations work to build vibrant and inclusive democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people. We are active in more than 120 countries, making us the world’s largest private funder of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance, and human rights.
OSEPI is the EU policy and advocacy branch of the Open Society Foundations network, based in Brussels. OSEPI works to influence and inform decision-making on EU laws, policy, funding, and external action to maintain and promote open societies in Europe and beyond.
As an Associate Policy Officer at Open Society, you will:
  • Monitor and analyse developments in EU regarding relevant policies (with a focus on Roma rights, anti-discrimination policy, labour rights and corporate accountability in the agri-food sector)
  • Develop and execute advocacy initiatives to advance towards OSF’s goals on the above-mentioned policies
  •  Develop and maintain relationships with EU policymakers and civil society networks. As well as liaise with and establish close working relationships with colleagues across the OSF network
  • Conduct research and analysis to be used in the design and implementation of advocacy strategies, and for the evaluation of advocacy portfolios or other OSEPI processes
  • Design and carry out mapping exercises to monitor potential partners, advocacy targets and issues. Provide support and input on team learning and assessment of impact, results, and strategy design
  • Perform administrative tasks and manage projects in support of advocacy and help conceive and deliver events and other internal and external communications materials.
What we are looking for:
  • Five-seven years of professional experience with extensive knowledge of the European Union, including institutions, actors, processes, and policies; and of public policy and what influences it
  • Excellent understanding of EU policies related to economic and social justice, human rights, and corporate accountability. Understanding of policies related to Roma rights, anti-discrimination policy, labour rights and/or corporate accountability in the agri-food sector will be a particular advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken communication in English, including drafting and editing skills. Fluency in other European languages a major advantage
  • Willingness to work with a broad range of stakeholders inside and outside OSF (OSF programs in Brussels, London, and Berlin, think tanks, researchers, and civil society organisations)
  • Good project management skills and the ability to manage competing demands on time in a busy and fast-moving advocacy environment
  • Commitment to continuous learning and growth in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and social justice
  • Commitment to listening and working with humility; ways of working that are respectful to all people; and that support space and voice for all diverse perspectives in our workplace.
What we offer:
  • Ample opportunities to learn and grow, from annual professional development allowances to onsite trainings and brown bag lunches with visiting experts
  • Top-notch benefits and perks designed for your well-being and a healthy work-life balance. With some variability according to location, this includes generous time off, flexible work arrangements, employer-paid health insurance, generous retirement savings plan, progressive paid parental leave, reproductive and family planning support, sabbatical opportunities, and much more
  • A commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that enables everyone to bring their full self to work and make a positive impact on the world.
