Position Description

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University invites applications for an associate professor of practice in Journalism and Mass Communication to begin fall 2021. This position will be a non-tenure-line, nine-month faculty position having a contract term not to exceed five years, subject to annual reappointment review, and renewable upon expiration of the initial term. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

1. Earned M.S., M.A. or M.F.A. degree in journalism, mass communication, writing or related field from an accredited university is required at the time of application.

2. A significant number of documented years of professional experience as a senior level journalist, academic and documentarian.

3. Relevant experience presenting at professional conferences and workshops.

4. Leadership positions in relevant professional associations, recognition by peers or awards for contributions to the profession and/or industry.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior teaching experience at the university level.

2. Ability to teach courses in the area of multimedia, reporting and photojournalism.

3. Successful grant activity.

4. Experience advising National Association of Hispanic Journalists chapter.
