Job Summary/General Purpose of Job

The ABA seeks a team-oriented individual to provide administrative support for the entity that leads the ABA’s outreach to bar associations and their leaders across the country. This individual will support efforts to enhance the capacity of non-profits to serve the legal profession, enhance the public’s access to justice, and to uphold the rule of law. The position’s principal responsibility is to serve as the registrar for the ABA’s flagship program, the Bar Leadership Institute, and will also assist with the division’s consulting, clearinghouse and publication programs.



 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)

Serves on the Bar Leadership Institute program planning team

Serves as the BLI Registrar and the primary point of contact for bar organization elected leaders and executive staff, as well as program speakers and sponsors

Participates in the division’s consulting program by helping with data collection and analysis, and process development and scheduling

Helps to maintain and develop the division’s clearinghouse, and periodically fields information requests from bar leaders and executive staff

Supports the division’s purchasing and billing functions

Contributes to the division’s trendspotting function by reading bar news and journals

Provides full range of administrative and clerical functions.

Provides programmatic support that may include, but not be limited to, editing, proofing, elementary desktop publishing, conducting basic research, supporting members and committees, supporting marketing activities, and meeting planning.

Establishes, selects, implement, modifies, and coordinates all office administrative services to optimize service delivery.

Complies basic operational reports and assists in the maintenance of the department’s budgets.

Orders and maintains supplies and, where appropriate, arranges for equipment maintenance and repair.

Performs other related duties as required.



Provides programmatic support that may include, but not be limited to, editing, proofing, elementary desktop publishing, conducting basic research, supporting members and committees, supporting marketing activities, and meeting planning.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

At least three years’ experience providing administrative support in a business setting.

Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).

Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: opening a workbook, inserting a row, selecting font style and size, formatting cells as currency, using copy, paste and save functions, aligning text, selecting cells, renaming a worksheet, inserting a column, selecting a chart style, inserting a worksheet, setting margins, selecting page orientation, using spell check and/or printing worksheets).

 

Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience

Possession of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
