Position description

Premise is growing! We’re hiring a Business Development Representative for our International Development team who will help generate and qualify new business leads. Premise is unlike any other company in the international development industry – a venture-funded technology firm seeking to disrupt remote data collection and analytics. We’re looking for an ambitious risk-taker who loves to be challenged, relishes the idea of helping build a different kind of development organization, and believes in the power of data to improve outcomes.

The Role. Premise seeks to more than double the size of it’s international development business in 2021 and again in 2022. Business Development Representatives at Premise are the entry level positions in Premise’s industry-specific sales teams. You will help generate and qualify new leads at international development funding agencies and implementing partners and pass them to a Business Development Executive. By doing this, you will help expand our reach into the mainstream portion of the international development market and solidify our role as the go-to provider of remote data collection and analytics.

Education and Experience. Premise seeks a candidate with at least a Bachelor’s degree and a strong interest in international development, humanitarian assistance, or global health. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers looking for this first professional job or similar candidates are ideal. Please note that business development at Premise is very different from capture management and proposal development at an international development implementing partner. This position is an entry level sales position at a technology company that sells to the international development community.

About Premise: Premise has built a remote data collection and analytics software platform that includes access to a network of 2.5 million data collectors in 100+ countries. Our platform integrates the people who collect the data, technology for managing collection, and the data analysis into a single software solution that works in real-time. Our technology enables global decision-makers to move faster and make smarter decisions by employing local, on-the-ground contributors to observe and collect real-time data. Our international development clients include The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. A $171M Series E funded company, we are backed by Google Ventures, SocialCapital, Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, and more. Learn more about us at www.premise.com or follow us at @premisedata.

Our Team: We are a passionate, tight-knit, super-driven team that moves fast, appreciates candor, and deeply values the diversity of our backgrounds. Our diversity mirrors the global nature of our work: we’ve lived in 30 countries, speak 14 languages, and believe in the value of life experience that an unconventional background inherently brings. What unites us is our innate curiosity and collective ambition to build technology that ultimately has measurable human impact.

What you get to do:

  • Develop new business via phone, email and social media to educate the prospect, introduce our solution, and identify appropriate buyers within the target market. You will focus on field-based project staff and home office-based new business staff at international development implementing partners and funding agencies.
  • Follow up on inbound marketing leads and outbound prospects through a strategic touch plan to generate additional interest in Premise Data and qualify for a potential opportunity
  • Conduct research to identify potential opportunities and understand challenges our clients and prospects today.
  • Conduct initial qualification and determine prospect’s current environment, pain points, and challenges.
  • Identify key buying influencers within these prospects to determine budget and timeline.
  • Build and cultivate prospect relationships by initiating communications and conducting follow-up communications in order to move opportunities through the sales funnel.
  • Work with the key sales drivers to develop and grow the sales pipeline to consistently meet annual revenue goals
  • Use Salesforce CRM to track all sales activities properly and manage contact/lead data for accuracy
  • Communicate and work with sales executives to build out a strategic territory plan.

Qualifications

The Following Traits Probably Describe You (This is What We are Interviewing for):

  • You’re highly competitive. This position requires a strong desire to succeed and the accompanying work ethic to make it happen.
  • You hustle. We’re looking for a high energy candidate that never waits to be told what to do and isn’t afraid to be aggressive and persistent (without being pushy).
    • You have grit. Marketing and selling a disruptive technology product in the international development market requires incredible perseverance. You will be rejected.
  • You have international development industry knowledge. Our ideal candidate is a returned Peace Corps volunteer or has some other similar international development experience.
  • You’re comfortable with data and technology. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable with basic statistics and geospatial concepts.
  • You’re accountable. This position has variable compensation based on how many leads you generate that are accepted by the international development team’s Business Development Executives.

Bonus Points:

  • You have some sales experience and are familiar with Salesforce or another CRM.
  • You have working proficiency in French or Spanish and are comfortable taking phone calls in that language.
  • You have experience in varsity or collegiate sports or another area that demonstrates your competitive nature.
