Summary: The STEP (Survivors of Trafficking Empowerment Program) Case Manager serves as an initial point of contact and emergency responder for domestic and international victims identified by state-level and local law enforcement, juvenile and adult court justice systems, legal aid providers, social service or health providers, and other identified victims of crimes that may include kidnapping, domestic violence, prostitution, smuggling, sexual assault, dating violence, visa fraud, wage theft, and familial violence where there are elements of exploitation. The STEP Crisis Case Manager provides intensive, short-term case management services to survivors exiting a sex or labor trafficking situation as well as to victims of other crimes. The STEP Case Manager provides emotional support and coordinates social services within an extensive referral network and individually devised service plan. The position is funded by the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) or Office for Victims of Crime (OVC),

This position is responsible for providing crisis intervention, screening triage, and intake services and is located in Austin, Texas..

Responsibilities:

  • Provide initial, intensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking as well as victims of other crimes including: Intake, eligibility assessment, development of individualized service plans, assessment of eligibility for external public or community based programs, shelter/housing, medical care, dental care, mental health referrals, interpreter/translator services, substance abuse treatment referrals, HHS/OFF certification processing, victim advocacy and coordination, all other appropriate referrals to address employment, transportation, life skills training, and legal services
  • Ensure quality provision of services through thorough case notation, case file management, case supervision, and the completion of reports in a timely manner
  • Availability and assistance with the 24-hour, on-call emergency anti-trafficking response system
  • Utilize STEP and other community resources to ensure the victims immediate needs are met, including safe temporary housing, clothing, food, referral to residential treatment center, medical care services and mental health services, legal aid services, counseling, interpretation services, relocation, etc.
  • Ensure onsite crisis intervention and follow up and provide crisis counseling in person and by telephone
  • Assist in law enforcement requests for HT operations to provide immediate emotional support to potential victims
  • Advocate on behalf of survivors of trafficking with various entities and stakeholders
  • Manage cash and in-kind donations from the community and guarantee efficient, documented distribution to clients
  • Represent the agency by attending meetings, conducting presentations, and managing public relations duties
  • Conduct and assist with training and outreach activities to various community service providers, law enforcement, and immigrant organizations
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other service providers and community partners in the area
  • Participate in training as requested
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor

Documentation:

  • Document all service provision and client interaction from identification through case closure in funder and agency databases as well as physical files
  • Maintain a thorough representation of services in the case file
  • Maintain client confidentiality

Collaboration:

Work closely with the referral network and maintain communicative and functional relationships
Actively participate in monthly/quarterly coalition meetings
Assist partner agency(ies) conducting outreach and awareness as necessary

Requirements: Masters of Social Work (MSW), Licensed Masters of Social Work (LMSW), or Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree with two years case management experience. Spanish/English Bilingual required.
