How can you make a difference?
The Chief Child Survival & Development is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of health programmes/projects (e.g. gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival, emergency preparedness) within the multi-country programme context covering 14 countries in the Pacific, from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of results of UNICEFPacific health programme focusing health system strengthening at national and subnational level to operationalize primary health care in the context of universal health coverage in small islands states setting. S/he leads and manages the health team including establishing plans of action to achieve concrete and sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results in based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, and does so in consultation with the Regional Health Adviser.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology or another relevant technical field.
- A minimum of eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health/nutrition planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
- Experience or familiarity with health systems in small Island Developing States; experience of working on the triple burden of nutrition; proven capability of building partnerships and resource mobilization in multi-country offices
- Extensive experience in diverse emergencies including natural disasters and outbreaks and in both health and nutrition as well as strategic expertise in integrating climate change adaptation into health systems
- Dynamic leadership with proven ability to build trust among diverse and geographically spread teams for greater impact
- Experience working in a developing country especially in island states is considered as an asset.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

This position is classified as “rotational” which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty.
