Chemonics seeks chief of party position for the upcoming USAID-funded Nepal Jal Jangal (Freshwater & Forests) Activity. This new activity aims to reduce multiple threats to ecosystems and species to converse nature, enhance human well-being, and safeguard the future with a focus on following objectives: 1) health of ecosystems improved, 2) natural resource safeguards and climate resilience improved, and 3) environmental crimes reduced. The ideal candidate will have a record of successfully implementing biodiversity conservation programs as well as passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

The chief of party (COP) will be responsible for leading all technical, financial and administrative aspects of the program and will coordinate closely with USAID in developing, implementing, and revising the Activity’s overall field strategy. The COP sets the strategic and technical direction of Jal Jangal and serves as link between USAID, Chemonics HO, and Jal Jangal partners. He/she maintains effective relationships and coordination with government, NGOs, and other donors and ensures compliance with the contract including timely, high-quality results. This would be a full-time position and be based in Nepal.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and technical expertise for the Activity, including supervising the Jal Jangal Team
  • Provide strategic oversight and the development of annual work plans
  • Manage USAID, counterparts, and partner relationships, and represent Jal Jangal and Chemonics
  • Oversee effective management and implementation of the Activity in accordance with the contract, USAID and Chemonics policies and procedures
  • Ensure contract compliance and the timely achievement of quality results
  • Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of progress toward achieving results and lessons learned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, forestry, natural resources management, water resource management, ecology, or another relevant discipline is required
  • At least fifteen (15) years of experience working on forest and landscape conservation, natural resource management, and/or freshwater conservation projects, preferably in Nepal or the Asia region
  • At least ten (10) years in a director- or senior-level management position, providing conceptual leadership and administrative oversight to complex natural resource management and/or biodiversity conservation international development programs. USAID experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary development programs and teams, engaging effectively with stakeholders (including national-level governments), fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and addressing gender equality and social inclusion
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Professional fluency in English required
