The Center on Children and Law is seeking a full-time staff attorney to undertake substantive legal work for the Center’s grant funded projects. The attorney will be supervised by a more senior attorney and the job will include legal research, writing, and speaking on safety, permanency and well-being,  representation, education, kinship and other substantive child welfare related topics.
 

Principal Job Duties
Work on various grants at the Center that focus on safety, permanency and well being for children in foster care.
Conduct legal research, write memoranda, speeches, and articles, including for publication.
Analyze laws, regulations, court rules and policies/policy proposals. Prepare memoranda on law or public policy. Provide guidance to funders. 
Coordinate or support advisory committees, and coordinate with external constituencies.
Give presentations and/or teach on legal and public policy issues. Design substantive content of events, developing model documents, and conducting trainings. 
Research, draft, author, review and critique legislative/rule/policy or regulatory text.
 

Education Required
Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD)
 

Experience Required
Requires JD and bar admission in at least one jurisdiction. At least 3 years legal experience. Requires outstanding communication skills, excellent organizational skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. May occasionally conduct attorney trainings and/or plan/host conferences.
