JOB DESCRIPTION

EUROCLIMA+ is the EU flagship cooperation programme on environmental sustainability and climate change in the Latin American region. The Programme aims at fostering climate mitigation, resilience and investment through actions that are considered of strategic importance for the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the 18 Latin American partner countries.

EUROCLIMA+ also responds to emerging priorities such as the European Green Deal and the post-COVID19 Green Recovery. The Programme is implemented by agencies of the EU Member States (AECID, AFD, Expertise France, FIIAPP, GIZ) and the UN (ECLAC and UN Environment).

The German contribution to the EUROCLIMA+ Programme intends to ensure a link to the NDC partnership and to involve the BMZ in the climate policy dialogue between the EU and Latin American partner countries. GIZ assists the implementation of the objectives of EUROCLIMA+ by: i) supporting programme coordination and coherence; ii) leading the facilitation of a number of country dialogues; iii) acting as coordinating agency for the Action Lines 2 Access to Finance and Investments and 4 Coordination among sectors, between government levels and multiple stakeholders; iv) acting as coordinating agency for the sectors Urban Mobility/Transport and Energy, and as support agency to the Forests, Biodiversity, Ecosystems and the Resilient Food Production sector.

This intern will be assigned to the GIZ Climate Governance coordinator (Country Dialogue facilitation and Coordination Action Lines 2 and 4).

YOUR TASKS

Support the coordination of dialogue processes on NDC implementation, LTS strategies and Green Recovery in partner countries

Support the coordination of NDC-related regional, multicountry and national actions with a focus on climate finance and intersectoral, multilevel and multi-stakeholder coordination processes

Participate in events and meetings with EU Commission, implementing partners, programme secretariat and the project team

Support the coordination with internal and external programme partners

Support the preparation of presentations, reports and the organisation of events

General office management support

Special tasks on behalf of the Programme management

YOUR PROFILE

You study at least in the third semester, preferably in environmental sciences, political/social sciences or another relevant area

You have a very good knowledge of Spanish and English, both written and spoken; German language skills as advantage

Initial experience in the Latin American context and in development cooperation as an asset

Interest in the subject of climate change and sustainable development

You are very familiar handling the MS Office package

You have very good organisational skills

You are a team player with strong communication and networking skills and intercultural sensitivity

In a work environment with a wide range of tasks, you can maintain an overview and efficiently organize yourself

We pay a monthly stipend of €1.225,- (gross).
