Climate Smart Agriculture-National Consultant- Iraq – Mosul

Oxfam is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in Iraq since 2014 implementing multi-sectoral programmes including livelihoods and food security, water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), protection, gender, and advocacy. With funding from SIDA, Oxfam is implementing a 24-month project to promote economic resilience, gender equality and social cohesion through increased livelihood opportunities for women in the agricultural sector in Ninewa Governorate.

About the project

The overall objective of the project is to promote economic resilience, gender equality and social cohesion through increased livelihood opportunities for women in the agricultural sector in Ninewa Governorate.

The primary outcomes are:

  • Women’s Economic Empowerment is strengthened in target communities through improved access to safe and sustainable livelihood opportunities
  • Increased social cohesion in target communities through increased opportunities for women focused community engagement

Purposes of the Climate-smart agriculture consultancy

  • Develop a Climate-smart Agriculture and Good Agriculture practices related to vegetables and livestock training manual in Arabic (Technical content and learning methods/ structure)
  • Develop and deliver ToT program to Oxfam staffs, government extension workers, farmer association and lead farmers (30 participants) in Ninewa governorate
  • Enhance the technical capacity for the targeted trainee’s through mentoring and coaching sessions.

Expected output

  • Develop and submit Climate-smart Agriculture training curriculum (English and Arabic language) to Oxfam
  • 30 participants are trained in Climate-smart Agriculture

Deliverables

  • Develop Climate-smart Agriculture training materials and structure
  • Deliver ToT of the Climate-smart Agriculture training to Oxfam staffs, extension workers, lead farmers and farmers association
  • Pre and post-training test and evaluation result to be submitted to Oxfam with recommendation on training and learning
  • Final report of the trainer (on the provided training topic, attendance list)

Methodology  

  • Training modules should cover all areas of climate-smart Agriculture. Oxfam will review the training curriculum and proposed methodology for the selection of applicants.
  • The training should follow the contemporary and interactive training provision style which is based on ‘sharing’ or ‘learning togethertogether’ or acting as a ‘facilitator’, rather than the conventional approach of ‘giving’ in a training situation. The role of a facilitator is to encourage participation without being judgmental and by listening with interest and empathy to help the trainees (participants) to tap into the reservoir of their own abilities gained through their experiences.
  • Other training methods such as practical events, scenarios, use of pictures and even stories about the subject matter and group work should be incorporated. The practical part of the training should be given paramount importance to develop the skill of trainees on the training topics.
  • Provide the handouts of the material for the participants during the training session
  • Provide a soft copy of the materials for Oxfam staff in Arabic version and English (would be preferable) for the review and approval before the launch of training.
  • The trainer should conduct pre-and post-training tests to evaluate the success of the training.

The Role

We are looking for a Climate-smart Agriculture-National Consultant

Specific tasks for the trainer

  • Design and prepare the action plan (agenda) of the training
  • Prepare pre-and post-training forms and make sure all trainees fill it before and after the training
  • Prepare all the documents required to deliver the climate-smart agriculture
  • Conduct the training
  • Write and submit training report to Oxfam by latest 10 days after the training is completed

What we are looking for

Eligibility and Qualification Requirements

The major criteria to evaluate the institutes/individuals competing for the assignment will include the following.

  • Good reputation in delivering climate-smart agriculture and good agricultural practices
  • Experienced trainers holding certifications as master trainers or proven experience to develop and deliver ToT programs.
  • Presence in the area of operations or willing to move easily to the area of operation for the period of assignment.

The trainer should have

  • History or general experience of the firm in the field of the assignment
  • Over 3 to 5 years of delivering similar assignment/ consultancies
  • Education background, master’s degree or bachelor’s in agriculture or agronomy, natural resource management or environmental science.
  • Appreciation of the Assignment and terms of reference
  • Methodology to be used to execute the training
  • Willing to work with multi-cultural context
  • Good command of English and Arabic
