Zero-Carbon Fuels Policy Manager, US

Co-Director, Transportation Decarbonization Program

ABOUT CATF: Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a non-profit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector.

CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of 60+ experts and advocates (and global network of subject matter experts and civil society partners) put this research and knowledge into action by designing and enacting public policies that drive toward zero emissions. We also support policies and work directly with private industry to innovate in technology to make the path to zero emissions swift and affordable. CATF is headquartered in Boston, with staff working virtually around the U.S. and abroad.

ABOUT THE POSITION: CATF is building a new Transportation Decarbonization Program to push the development of a fully decarbonized global transportation sector by midcentury, and is hiring a Co-Director to help lead the development and management of the program.

CATF’s emerging transportation program builds on the organization’s expertise in zero carbon fuels, bioenergy, decarbonized fossil energy, and the abatement of methane and other super pollutants. The program is especially focused on designing and implementing strategies aimed at hard-to-electrify heavy-duty vehicles like marine vessels, aircraft, and freight trucks.

The Co-Director will partner with the existing Co-Director to hone the program’s objectives and strategies, build and lead a capable team of experts and advocates, raise funding to grow and sustain the program, engage with stakeholders, and serve as a thought-leader on transportation sector decarbonization in business and policy forums in the United States, Europe, the Pacific Rim, and elsewhere. The Co-Director will work closely with CATF’s leadership team and specialists in technology, policy, law, and communications.

Primary duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Strategy development: Lead processes to develop and communicate CATF’s near- and long-term strategies for accelerating widespread transportation sector decarbonization. Identify critical-path actions to drive to system change.
  • Team and capacity building: Hire, cultivate, and inspire a talented and cohesive team of staff and consultants to execute CATF strategy. Expand and deepen CATF capacity in transportation-related policy and technology.
  • Budget management: Allocate and track financial resources, and determine future resource needs.
  • Fundraising: Identify potential funding sources, develop funding proposals, secure resources to grow and sustain the Transportation Decarbonization Program.
  • Partnership development: Connect, cultivate, and enhance constructive relationships with leaders from civil society, the private sector, academia, and government.
  • Policy engagement: Track and analyze existing policy in key national and sub-national jurisdictions, and design and build support for new policy.
  • Strategic communications: Present CATF’s views on transportation decarbonization in various contexts, including media, conferences, government hearings, and private sector briefings.
