Communication and Liaison Officer

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Under the direct supervision of Programme Management Officer – Head of External Relations Unit and under the overall guidance of the Director of Stabilization and Recovery section, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following task:

Support S&R communication strategies and approaches, focusing on the following:

  • Design and organize internal awareness-raising sessions, conferences and events;
  • Support specific training activities on communications and Stabilization & Recovery section colleagues based in the field;
  • Act as S&R focal point for general information requests.

Support external communication strategies, focusing on the following:

  • Participate in preparation of communication activities, including briefing notes and minutes, etc.;
  • Support national and international partners in the development and update of online and other tools dedicated to the coordination of assistance, stabilization and development programmes and projects in post-conflict areas;
  • Support specific training activities on communications and national partners;
  • Collaborate with the Public Information Officers (PIO) in media and outreach operations, for promotion of stabilization and recovery activities.

Support reporting and publication efforts of the Stabilization & Recovery section, focusing on the following results:

  • Produce/disseminate regular reports/documents and updates for the section and other stakeholders;
  • Participate in editing of the S&R publication tools, take part in the publication activities of the section
  • Support content and knowledge management, as well as data collection regarding stabilization and recovery results on the ground;
  • Contribute to update stabilization & recovery content into the UN internet and MINUSMA website, participate in media monitoring on a regular basis;
  • When working with national personnel or (non-)governmental counterparts, set aside dedicated time for training, coaching, mentoring and capacity development;
  • Perform any other related activity as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.


Master degree or equivalent


Communication or Information management. A first level university degree BA with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience in related areas may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


36 Months

At least 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in communication and information management in international or national organizations.

Other information and telecommunications technology experience, Other communications related experience

Proficiency regarding tools and software used for communication activities such as graphic design, video editing (Adobe Creative Cloud – All Apps, etc).
