2. Final outreach and communication materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

This Individual Contractor is located in the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

In its resolution A/RES/70/1, the General Assembly, inter alia, recognized that achieving the ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will require an enhanced communication system to raise awareness about social development issues and to facilitate an intensive global engagement in support of the implementation of all the Goals and targets, bringing together Governments, civil society, the private sector, the United Nations system and other actors and mobilizing all available resources.

In this regard and to advance alignment with the 2030 Agenda, the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), through its Office of the Director (OD), will undertake a significant number of tasks to improve its ability to raise awareness about the aforementioned issues, with special focus on the role of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD) in advancing social justice and reducing inequalities; inclusive economic sustainable development and the related social impact of economic insecurity and social protection.

In this context, DISD would like to engage the services of an Individual Contractor with proven experience to prepare outreach and communications materials which will draw attention to the work of the Division for Inclusive Social Development to pursue the goal of disseminating information and knowledge related to inclusive social development at 60th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CsocD60).

Responsibility:
The Individual Contractor will work under the supervision of the Director of DISD. The Individual Contractor will be expected to produce engaging storytelling and related digital products as a communication strategy that would effectively raise awareness and attract further interest in the work of DISD and its mandates.

The Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following work assignments:

  • Prepare outreach materials and content for social media platforms for CsocD60 including promotional short videos that improve DISD social media presence, and raise awareness about:

i. The Commission for Social Development (CSocD)60 High-level panel discussion on the priority theme “Inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being and dignity for all: eradicating poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions to achieve the 2030 Agenda”; the Ministerial Forum and the High-level panel discussion on emerging issues;

ii. The Foods Systems, social impact of economic insecurity and social protection.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree (Bachelor of Arts or equivalent) in communication, information management, language or related area.

Experience: Minimum five (5) years professional experience in the field of communications, content development and social media.

Technical expertise in production of high-quality audio-visual material.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job posting, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
