The Communications Director brings substantial technical and managerial expertise and oversees our global Communications functions. The Director reports to the Managing Director, Agility, participates on the firm’s management team and provides thought partnership and strategic advising to the Leadership Team to address firm communications challenges and opportunities.

The Director is an architect and a storyteller, designing a compelling voice for the firm and tuned in narrative while conveying feeling and purpose. This Director oversees a team and partners with ThinkWell managers globally to develop and implement functional and useful communication strategies and procedures. The director’s overall objective is taking the ThinkWell brand to its next level.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and drive a multi-channel communications strategy leading internal and external communications activities such as promoting our work through relevant media channels, conferences, and forums.
  • Develop a communication strategy that conveys ThinkWell’s voice in various media, as well as counsel senior management on effective communication strategies.
  • Develop brand voice and maintain brand integrity across all platforms.
  • Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders.
  • Conduct assessments of our program impact through use of market research tools including surveys and direct client engagement.
  • Lead a team of two communication and design specialists.
  • Build inhouse capacity for design and writing of media materials, blogs, social media, and website stories.
  • Design and deliver training for country teams to capture stories and visual media, of ThinkWell’s work.
  • Oversee design, preparation, and submission of all communications material, assisting in the creation of digital, video, audio, and print content.
  • Track engagement across various platforms and make data-driven decisions.
  • Write and distribute press releases to introduce new programs and results of our work and expand on to create other newsworthy communication.
  • Plan internal communication to employees regarding changes in the company or other helpful information in support of Leadership, Management and Program Strategy teams.
  • Designs a corporate framework for internal communications such as an intranet

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and 12+ years experience or graduate degree and 10+ years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience managing communications for large, complex projects, preferably in an international context.
  • Adept at communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Full English fluency, second language a plus.
  • A senior leader, able to rally staff around ThinkWell’s mission and priorities.
  • Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to relate respectfully with staff at all levels, ages, genders, nationalities, and orientations as well as across work areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external strategic partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated team and people management abilities with a focus on growing staff, mentoring, and coaching junior professionals.
  • A team player, motivated to provide subject matter expertise with a collaborative, customer service orientation.
  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), layout principles, and aesthetic design concepts.
  • Able to design various types of digital (email, web) and print (flyers, event collateral, publications) assets and layouts from start to completion with limited supervision.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platforms.
  • Strong and compelling writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage in social media activities, including promotional videos and blogs.
  • Working knowledge of how to create magazines, newsletters, television or radio advertisements and direct mail promos.
  • Has strong negotiation and persuasion abilities.
  • Established media relations a plus
