Communications director | Sri Lanka | 2021

Chemonics seeks a communications director for the Sri Lanka Energy Project. This five-year program will support transforming Sri Lanka’s power sector into a market-based, secure, reliable, and sustainable system by mobilizing investments to deploy advanced technologies, increase flexibility and enhance competitiveness. This position will be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversees crosscutting activities including communications, gender, MEL, and ensures integration with technical teams
  • Leads development of communication strategy and branding implementation and marking plan with chief of party and technical teams
  • Creates promotional and public outreach materials for the project, including newsletters, fact sheets, media advisories, press releases, success stories, leaflets, brochures, etc., and supervise their production and distribution
  • Ensures communications tools such as websites, client management platforms and marketing materials are maintained and up to date, and that conferences, events, webinars, and interactive feedback platforms are well maintained and managed.
  • Operationalizes strategy for outreach, communications, and advocacy
  • Oversees outreach and communications activities under all objectives; Coordinates messaging across Government of Sri Lanka ministries and other stakeholders
  • Ensures production of high-quality program reports and communications materials, serving as Editor-in-Chief as needed for contract deliverables to deliver to USAID
  • Reports to chief of party

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in communications or marketing
  • Advanced degree in communications, or other relevant field; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a relevant field 
  • Experience working on USAID funded projects and knowledge of USAID branding requirements and draft and maintain appropriate communication templates 
  • Proven ability to work and collaborate with government officials, international donors, and private sector stakeholders 
  • Strong leadership and communications skills required 
  • English fluency is essential for the Communications Director position; fluent Sinhalese is also preferred
