Communications & Engagement Specialist, Land & Carbon Watch

Job Summary:

WRI is seeking a full-time Communications and Engagement Specialist to support the new Land & Carbon initiative. You will work closely with the Communications and Engagement leads, the Specialist will provide general support and coordination throughout the initiative. In this position, you will be responsible for outreach and content creation using Land & Carbon social media channels, newsletters, and other communications materials. You will provide support to the Land & Carbon communications team and create content s well.

This position is remote due to Covid-19, but you will be based in Washington, DC once restrictions have lifted.

Job Responsibilities:

Communications and Engagement Specialist include: Communications (45%)

  • Support the production of Land & Carbon communications and outreach content including key messages, blog posts, newsletters, website copy, and other project-related materials
  • Support the development of social media content, including identifying new and compelling visual and multimedia
  • Work with the communications team to verify that public-facing content meets WRI brand requirements, and overall WRI strategic objectives
  • Maintain a calendar of ‘anchor moments’ that inform the policy and political dialogue related to Land and Forests
  • Coordinate with related platform and research teams to ensure complementarity between our data and product updates
  • Be a second point of contact for the Senior Communications Manager

Engagement (45%)

  • Inform and sustain processes to identify key decision makers, thought leaders, and influencers – Support researching and archetyping users of Land & Carbon content
  • Support the development of case studies to better understand how our data is impacting the world
  • Support externally facing events, including logistic support such as RSVPs, speaker invites, and day of operations
  • Support internal engagement to identify opportunities originating from WRI’s network to support Land & Carbon objectives
  • Be a secondary point of contact for the Senior Engagement Manager

Analytics and Reporting (10%)

  •  Define goals, implement strategy, and create analytics reports that capture outreach outcomes using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Google Analytics and Pardot
  • Create reports that capture outcomes of outreach campaigns to share with the team and donors
  • Collect user stories, testimonials, and other examples of how Land & Carbon is supporting tangible on the ground impact
  • Maintain communications and engagement activities within WRI project platforms such as Salesforce, Monday, and Asana

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in a relevant field is desired; relevant work experience in lieu of degree is accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in relevant fields
  • Experience or exposure to international environmental issues, data, technology, and communications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with desire to produce high-quality, polished products
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a large organization to develop projects and initiatives
  • Desire to find priority within existing tasks and processes, and willingness to support team execution related to tasks and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively about problems, be challenge, challenge others, think outside the box, and propose new ideas that may be ‘wrong’
  • Self-motivation and ability to navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity – US work authorization is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with product marketing in the technology or environmental space
  • Experience with Salesforce, Monday, Pardot and/or Asana
  • Demonstrated experience using Google Analytics
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing campaigns and motivation to grow marketing expertise
  • Design skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Video and sound editing skills in Final Cut Pro and screen recording software (e.g. Screenflow)
  • Experience with Stakeholder mapping methodologies
  • Advanced language skills in French, Spanish, Portuguese or Bahasa Indonesia

Potential Salary:

$53,000 – $69,000 if based in United States. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
