The position

Are you excited at the prospect of using your communication skills to change hearts and minds, and to engage with ILGA World member organisations, Committees, and staff to reach the purpose? ILGA World is expanding its communications team, and therefore seeks a creative, innovative, and dedicated individual for the role of Communications Officer.

The role of the Communications Officer will be to support ILGA and its membership in their advocacy efforts related to people of diverse SOGIESCs using a wide range of media to conduct outstanding, creative, strategic communications, and to support public-facing mobilisation and awareness media campaigns.

Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, the role requires to strengthen the engagement of ILGA World with its member organisations, and to work in close cooperation with ILGA World’s programmatic team and Steering Committees.

The successful candidate will have to be a creative and collaborative individual with a proven track record of developing fresh and strategic communications and of supporting the creation of mobilisation and awareness campaigns, a passion for sensitively engaging LGBTI grassroots communities globally, and a strong “nothing about us without us” ethics to drive their work.

The ideal candidate will start working in January 2022.

Responsibilities

  • Create communication outputs to promote ILGA World’s research and advocacy work to our member organisations and the public at large. Developed in close cooperation with the Programmes team, these materials will present often-complex concepts in a simple, compelling way.
  • Support, plan or develop global, movement-driven mobilisation and awareness communication campaigns around key SOGIESC issues globally, for relevant LGBTI awareness days, and any other specific project – in close cooperation with ILGA World’s Programmes team and the organisation’s Bisexual, Intersex, Trans, Women and Youth Committees
  • Facilitate and improve ILGA World’s engagement with its member organisations. This includes in particular

· improving the capacity of member organisations to access ILGA information to support their advocacy efforts

· increase membership-targeted communications through dedicated platforms, newsletters, toolkits, and surveys

· supporting the involvement of member organisations in global mobilisation and awareness campaigns run by ILGA World, and in assessing opportunities for support to their own grassroots campaigns

· identifying topics on which ILGA World can improve its capacity building – including on communications

  • Manage and expand ILGA World’s presence across social media channels
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and meetings on behalf of ILGA World
  • Work as a part of the ILGA World staff team
  • Occasionally stand in for the Communications Manager to take care of media relations, depending on circumstances
