Summary of position:
Under the direction of the Senior Consular Officer, the incumbent will:
•deliver assistance and support to consular clients;
•process and makes recommendations on applications for Passports and Citizenship;
•provides administrative, and logistical in support of the program;
•researches and compiles information, contribute to reporting;
•establishes and maintains operational contacts with representatives of local government, other missions, organizations, NGOs, and agencies ;
•coordinates, reviews and updates general communications products for the public;
•perform other related duties, as required.

 

Essential qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in OR a combination of post-secondary education and a minimum of 2 years of direct consular or immigration work experience.

Language
Fluency in English (oral and written)

Experience
Minimum of 3 years experience in the past 5 years in a client service or public-facing role in a diplomatic mission, government institution, or international organization

Rated Requirements

The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed. Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

•Sound knowledge of Jamaican institutions and civil documentation (identity, education, employment, etc.).
•Working knowledge of MS Office and mainstream Internet search engines
•Working knowledge of French, (oral and written)

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
•Successful training or demonstrated experience working with a consular or immigration program

Operational Requirements:
Ability to travel periodically both locally and internationally and to perform overtime with short notice when required.

 

Condition(s) of Employment:
The conditions of employment are mandatory requirements for hiring and continued employment with the High Commission of Canada to Jamaica. These conditions may be reviewed on a periodic basis.
•Legal status to work in Jamaica. Candidates must have a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. If the employment is indeterminate, the work authorization should be permanent or itself lead to a permanent work authorization.
•Obtain and maintain a reliability rating (security clearance) from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
•The successful candidate must be able to accept employment within four weeks or less of notice.
•Must possess valid travel documents and be willing, able and legally admissible to travel within and outside of Jamaica.
