The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to maximize income and drive income growth. There are five teams within the PSFP section, including Global Philanthropy. The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team is to drive income growth from major donors and family foundations.

UNICEF Germany is planning to establish a NextGen initiative, a group of young leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators who commit their resources, resolve and enthusiasm toward supporting UNICEF’s lifesaving work. Through their activities and involvement, members mobilize their networks and inspire their generations to take action on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable children.

UNICEF is seeking a consultant to support and coordinate the set-up of this Next Gen initiative in close coordination with UNICEF Germany. 

How can you make a difference?

Reporting to PFP Global Philanthropy Fund Raising Manager (Global Major Donors), and working closely with the Head of Philanthropy at UNICEF Germany, the consultant will support to build and grow the UNICEF Germany Next Generation (NextGen) chapter by engaging young professionals, business leaders and future/current philanthropists who are committed to UNICEF’s mission. The consultant will build relationships with NextGen donors and corporate leaders, their families and their networks, help position UNICEF as a leader in innovation and future issues such as digitalization and financial innovation and expand the program to new markets and constituents.

MAIN TASKS & DELIVERABLES

  • Develop a targeted and appealing NextGen Germany framework in close collaboration with UNICEF Germany leadership.
  • Research and identify a pool of potential NextGen donors, influencers and corporate leaders, working in close coordination with the corporate, philanthropy and programs team where appropriate.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of young, high net worth individuals, their families and their networks, and ensure that this group supports UNICEF financially (either personally or through their networks) or through their expertise.
  • Steward the UNICEF Germany Next Gen chapter to ensure individuals are highly motivated and have the tools to support UNICEF.
  • Work with NextGen members and respective Relationship Leaders to engage members’ families’ when appropriate.
  • Identify and market new opportunities to support UNICEF Germany such as financial innovation.
  • Stay on top of millennial and Gen X giving trends and vehicles and family philanthropy to keep NextGen best in class.
  • Coordinate all NextGen aspects across UNICEF Germany.

11.5 months, full time, tentatively start in March 2021

WORKPLACE

Germany-based, preference for Cologne or Berlin. (Given the COVID situation, home-based can be considered.)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Communication, Marketing, International Relations, Social Sciences or another relevant field is required
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in engaging with influencers and high net worth individuals and/or board/committee leadership and management is required.
  • Experience in sales and marketing/Strong acquisition skills is highly desirable.
  • Must be a self-motivated professional.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player.
  • Proven ability to prioritize; work independently; handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously; and to generate pragmatic solutions to challenges.
  • Strong customer service approach to interactions with colleagues and partners; ability to navigate complex environments, and help build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and with experience in using complex database.
  • Must share a strong commitment to international humanitarian relief and passionately embrace the mission of UNICEF.
  • Experience in major gifts or corporate fundraising is an asset.
  • Experience in the international development sector is an asset.
  • Connections with the Next Gen landscape in Germany is an asset.
  • Fluency in German and English is required.
