UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.
Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.
And we never give up.
For every child, hope
The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within PFP works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to maximize financial and non-financial support for children.
UNICEF is working with the Access to Covid19 Tools Accelerator (ACT A) to help support efforts to end the global pandemic. UNICEF has been asked – and has stepped forward –to buy and deploy the needed vaccines as well as therapeutics and diagnostics for some 92 targets low and middle-income countries. UNICEF will also provide training and support to health systems that will save the lives of millions of frontline workers in developing / poor countries and ensure that the children in those countries both survive and thrive to fulfil their potential. In 2021, we will deliver 2 billion vaccines, 245 million therapeutics and 500 million tests in a safe and equitable way, together with partners. An effort of this scale has never been done before.
This work is in addition to UNICEF’s day-to-day work on education, water and sanitation, child protection, routine immunization, health services, emergencies and more. The COVID pandemic itself is already estimated to have put children back 25 years in terms of progress towards the SDGs, so retaining the commitment to children that wrap around COVAX – ACT-A is needed more than ever.
If we do not increase our funding significantly in 2021, it will likely mean funding for COVAX / ACT A will “cannibalize” funding from other priorities, which we need to avoid. Therefore, a significant increase in our aspirational fundraising targets is needed to maintain broad fundraising for our standard “business” and also fund the additional activities expected within COVAX and ACT A.
The COVAX/ACT-A Resource Mobilization Strategy therefore has three key internal objectives for the Private Sector:
- To mobilize funding to fulfill COVAX/ACT-A needs in 2021
- To ensure UNICEF is re-enforced as the world’s most trusted and effective organization and partner
- To build effective and coordinated ways of working together across Divisions and Offices through effective matrixed teams, with shared goals, objectives and KPIs
How can you make a difference?
