Overview

UNICEF is developing an exciting new initiative – the Global Children’s Event taking place from 7 to 9 December 2021 and is looking for a Global Event Coordinator to support the design and development of the Event.

We are at an unprecedented moment in history. Children everywhere face severe threats — from COVID-related school closures to climate change to worsening inequality. But all too often, children are left out of conversations about the way forward. The Global Children‘s Event will: Focus the world’s attention on the urgent needs of children and young people; commit to concrete action to advance child rights and meet the ambition of the Global Goals; and mobilize the transformational resources required to turn vision into reality.

How can you make a difference?

Under the sponsorship of the Deputy Executive Director, Partnerships and the leadership of the Global Event Lead, a Leadership Team of 6 Workstream Leads is strategically spearheading the design and development of the event, focusing on a dedicated area crucial to making the event a success for both UNICEF and children: 1) Private Sector Partnerships, 2) Public Sector Partnerships, 3) Youth, Civil Society and Technical Partnerships, 4) Content and Talent, 5) Marketing and Communications and 6) Event logistics.

The global event coordinator will support one or more of the following 4 workstreams:

  1. Private Sector Partnerships
  2. Public Sector Partnerships
  3. Youth, Civil Society and Technical Partnerships
  4. Content and Talent

MAIN TASKS & DELIVERABLES

In preparation for the event under the guidance of one or more Workstream Leads, the global event coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Driving selected workstreams’ work for the Event, including supporting Workstream Leads with strategy development, as well as managing and tracking the groups’ workplans, activities and meetings.
  2. Developing and reconciling feedback from team members on materials designed to support the work of the team, potentially including pitch documents for partners, concept papers for joint content or research, marketing materials, multimedia content, speaker guidance and more.
  3. Supporting the design and delivery of the event, potentially including helping to host co-creation workshops with partners, contributing to staff engagement plans, preparing partners or other speakers for event sessions, and staffing the multi-day event itself.
  4. Participating in Leadership Team meetings and facilitating general alignment among workstreams, in collaboration with other Global Event Coordinators.
  5. Contributing to post-event activities such as partner follow-up and a formal report (produced by the event production agency) with recommendations for year two.
  6. Other duties as assigned by the Workstream Leads. 

The global event coordinator will:

  • Meet regularly with one or more Workstream Leads and keep them updated on weekly basis.
  • May be requested to work on weekends and holidays, especially as we get closer to the event.

ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL 

  • 6 Months (open to full-time and part-time work arrangements), tentatively starting 26 July 2021.

REPORTING TO   

  • Overall Supervisor: Chief Communication & Marketing.
  • On a daily basis: Report to the Workstream Lead, with second reporting to the Global Event Lead.

WORKPLACE 

  • Remote working arrangement,  ideally working within European or U.S. time zones

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:  

  • Bachelors’ Degree in International Relations, Business, Sales, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is required.

Work Experience:  

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience with at least two years at the international level in one or more of the following is required: fundraising and partnership development across governments, corporates, foundations and / or high value supporters; civil society and youth engagement.
  • Strong project management experience working in cross-functional environments, spanning programme, policy, partnerships, and public engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse groups of partners, donors, young people, and other external stakeholders.
  • Good judgement and ability to drive projects from conception through completion.
  • Deep understanding of UNICEF and world affairs and a commitment to child rights.
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required
