As a division of UNICEF, the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP), based in Geneva, Switzerland, is responsible for managing UNICEF’s relationship with 33 National Committees for UNICEF.
 
National Committees for UNICEF are independent nongovernmental organizations who act in their countries to advance child rights and wellbeing domestically, regionally and globally through fundraising, advocacy and other activities in support of UNICEF’s global mission and universal mandate for children. PFP’s Governance Team is responsible for the development of nonprofit governance guidance and technical support to National Committees in support of good governance through effective structures and processes with the objective to support board effectiveness, clear accountabilities, ethical environment, transparency, and an effective control environment.

How can you make a difference?

The Policy Writing Consultant will support updating and writing of guidance documents specific to technical nonprofit governance topics and conduct related research and consultations with stakeholders.
 
MAIN TASKS
 
• Update existing guidance documents on nonprofit governance topics identified in the workplan and conduct related research and consultations with stakeholders.
• Contribute to technical advisory and training resources on nonprofit governance as needed.
 
DELIVERABLES
 
• Review, research and update at least four (4) detailed guidance documents (approximately 25 pages for each document).
• Review or development of other guidance documents as agreed.
 
ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL
 
160 days within 7.5 months, tentatively starting on 21 December 2020.
 
REPORTING TO
 
The incumbent will report to PFP’s Chief of Governance.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree is required, preferably in (corporate/non-profit) Law, Business Administration, Public Administration or Policy, International Relations, Ethics, Finance or other disciplines relevant to nonprofit governance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in policy or guidance development including research and writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing corporate or nonprofit governance policy and guidance documents, and capacity building materials is essential.
  • Fluency in English is required. Excellent spoken and written English is essential, including excellent (policy) writing and editing skills. Additional knowledge of official UN languages is desirable.
  • Proficiency with standard MS Office applications (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent research skills are required.
  • Knowledge of concepts related to organizational governance structures, processes and requirements is required.
  • Strong organizational / strategic / analytical skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and consultatively within a team, as well as in consultation with a wide range of
    stakeholders, and follow established policies and procedures, is essential.
  • Experience in project management, communications and knowledge management is desirable.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF and National Committees is an asset.
